Adelaide Crows vs Geelong Preview & Betting Tips

Adelaide hosts Geelong at the Adelaide Oval in what looms as a do or die clash for the home side. The visitors are coming off a commanding performance against the Swans, while Adelaide must win to keep their season alive.

Adelaide Crows

Adelaide have been disappointing in 2018 and find their season on life support heading into a crucial game against Geelong. The Crows were disappointing against Richmond last round with a 47-point loss and need to turn things around against one of the best defensive sides in the competition.

Adelaide Matt Crouch midfielder has enjoyed playing against Geelong and has averaged 30+ disposals in his last two outings. The Crows are at their best when their backs are to the wall and expect them to be spurred on a by a parochial home crowd and we’re confident they can do the job at 1.97

Geelong

Geelong have a real opportunity to cement their place in the top-eight and challenge for a top four spot with a win over the Crows. After a disappointing 2-point loss to the Western Bulldogs in round 15, Geelong’s star-studded midfield roared to life with a 12-point win over the Swans.

The Cats will be counting on former Crow Patrick Dangerfield to produce something special against his old side. Dangerfield has averaged 29-disposals in his last five games and will need assistance from Joel Selwood and Gary Ablett to help the Cats restore some consistency to their season.

Match Up

Adelaide are going for their third consecutive win over Geelong for the first time since 2002-03. The home side has beaten Geelong in their last two clashes at the Adelaide, including a memorable 61-point win in last year’s preliminary final.

After reviving their season with a 10-win over the Eagles in round 15, Adelaide struggled to maintain the rage against Richmond, losing by 47-points. Geelong were impressive last week with a 12-point win over the Swans in Sydney but carry some scars into this match after being smashed by the Crows in their last outing at the same venue.

Key Statistics

  • Adelaide have won their last two clashes against Geelong at the Adelaide Oval
  • Adelaide’s Matt Crouch averages 30.2 disposals against Geelong.
  • Geelong have the best defence in the AFL conceding 69-points per game.
  • Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield has averaged 29 disposals in his last 5 games.

Verdict

The 2017 runners-up face a real struggle to play finals football in 2018 heading towards the pointy end of the season. The Crows were found wanting against the premiers last round and a similar result will seal their fate for season 2018.
Geelong were impressive last round with a gritty 12-point win against the Swans and will be looking for an electric start from their midfield.

The Crows have had the wood on Geelong in their last three games at home and with their season on the line we’re confident the Crows can get over the line for the win at 1.97.

Best Bet: Adelaide Crows @ 1.97
Value Bet: Matt Crouch 30+ Disposals @ 1.57
