Adelaide Crows vs North Melbourne Preview

Adelaide will be out to extend their flying start to the season when they host North Melbourne at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

The Crows have dazzled early with big wins over St Kilda and Essendon, piling on 25 goals against the Bombers last weekend on their way to a 61-point win.

They head in as favourites against a North Melbourne outfit that were impressive last weekend with a big victory of their own, clearing out to a 59-point margin ahead of Melbourne.

The Kangaroos come off a series of forgettable seasons and won just three matches in 2024. Are they beginning to turn things around?

Regardless of the answer, this looks to be a tough assignment on the road against a side that have given them trouble in the past. Crows can continue to win big.

  • Adelaide have won their past six matches against North Melbourne by an average margin of 52 points
  • The Kangaroos have never beaten the Crows at the Adelaide Oval.
  • Adelaide have kicked 46 goals in their two matches this season
  • Both sides have featured in games that have gone over the total points in 2025

Head to Head

Adelaide have won their past six matches against North Melbourne by an average margin of 52 points. All of those were by over 39.5 except one, which was right on 39. The Kangaroos have never beaten the Crows at the Adelaide Oval.

Rory Laird and Jordan Dawson average 29 disposals apiece in their past four against the Roos, while Taylor Walker (14 goals) and Darcy Fogarty (13) have scored highly in the past four. Cam Zurhaar has kicked two goals per game for North Melbourne.

Adelaide Crows Form Analysis

Adelaide have kicked 46 goals in their two matches this season with Darcy Fogarty kicking seven of those. Riley Thilthorpe and Josh Rachele have kicked six.

The Crows have averaged 60 more disposals than their opposition so far. Matt Crouch, Rory Laird, Jake Soligo and Jordan Dawson have been finding a stack of the pill.

They can get on top in the contested possesions and clearances, ranking 2nd and 6th in these meausres in their past 10 matches. They rank for goals scored in that period after their fast start to 2025.

Adelaide Crows Team News

Izak Rankine was substituted against Essendon for load management but is set to be available for Sunday’s. The Crows are almost at full strength. Chayce Jones now making a strong push for a spot after recovering from an AC joint injury and participating in match simulation training on Saturday.

North Melbourne Form Analysis

Prior to their big win over Melbourne, the Kangaroos were unable to account for an undermanned Western Bulldogs outfit in Round 1, going down by 16.

But they were able to dominate in the clearances against Melbourne, setting up well for their forwards in Cam Zurhaar, Nick Larkey and Paul Curtis, who combined for 10 goals.

Tom Powell, Harry Sheezel and Caleb Daniel have been the major ball-winners for the Roos this season and that trio have 25+ disposals well within their sights for the Crows match.

North Melbourne Team News

Griffin Logue (hamstring) is a chance to be available. George Wardlaw (hamstring) is progressing well in his recovery. Zac Fisher had a standout performance with 40 disposals and eight marks at VFL level. Defensive prospects Matt Whitlock (20 disposals, nine marks) and Riley Hardeman (18 disposals, eight marks) also put in strong performances, while forwards Zane Duursma and Finnbar Maley each kicked two goals in the reserves.
