Carlton can push Geelong at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues come in with a win-loss record of 2-4, while Geelong are 4-2. There are question marks over those that the Blues have beaten with recent wins against lowly West Coast and North Melbourne.

But they were 63-point winners the last time the two sides met and there is plenty to like about their midfield division, with Michael Voss’ side likely to take out the clearance and contested possession battle.

Geelong can never be underestimated and rank 3rd for scoring this season. They come off a seven-point win over Hawthorn on Easter Monday with Patrick Dangerfield instrumental in the win with three goals.

But the Blues have more depth in the middle and are value at the quote. Look for George Hewett to find plenty of the footy again, while Charlie Curnow can finish off in the forward line.

  • Carlton won by 63 points the last time the two sides met.
  • Charlie Curnow has kicked 16 goals in his past four matches against Geelong
  • George Hewett is averaging over 30 disposals this season.
  • The Blues top the competition for clearances

Head to Head

Carlton claimed a 63-point victory the last time the two sides met, which was in Round 15 last season. Charlie Curnow booted five goals, while Patrick Cripps had 41 disposals. Sam Walsh also found plenty of the footy with 31 disposals.

Jeremy Cameron has a good record against Carlton, having kicked 17 in his past four. Charlie Curnow has kicked 16 from his past four against the Cats. Geelong have won four of their past six against the Blues with all of those games played at the MCG.

Carlton Blues Form Analysis

Carlton’s two wins have come against the competition’s battlers in West Coast and North Melbourne. But they were a winning position in their losses against Richmond, Hawthorn, the Western Bulldogs and Collingwood, while they rank highly in a number of key measures.

The Blues top the comp for clearances and tackles per game, while they are 2nd for inside 50s and 3rd for defence.

George Hewett is averaging over 30 disposals per game, while Sam Walsh is at 27. The Blues have kicked some big totals in the past two weeks and the question will be whether or not they can find that formula against quality opposition.

Carlton Blues Team News

Harry McKay will be available to be selected after spending time out due to concussion. Cooper Lord is the one that could be squeezed out. There are question marks over the fitness of Jacob Weitering, who sustained a knock to the knee against North Melbourne.

Geelong Cats Form Analysis

Geelong have won their past three and it was Patrick Dangerfield and Shaun Mannagh that kicked three goals apiece in the triumph over Hawthorn last weekend. Dangerfield has kicked 12 goals from his past four matches.

The Cats rank 3rd for scoring this season, making the most of their relatively limited opportunities, ranking 16th for disposals and 13th for inside 50s.

Bailey Smith has been a key addition to the midfield. The former Bulldog is averaging just under 30 disposals per game this season. Tom Stewart has battled injury and illness in recent weeks and could only manage 15 disposals against Hawthorn but will be a key player in the back half.

Geelong Cats Team News

Geelong lose Grian Myers to concussion. Oisin Mullin is in line to come back in after being a late withdrawal against the Hawks. Jake Kolodjahnij is edging closer towards a comeback, while Jhye Clark and Mitch Duncan have some solid VFL form.
