The spotlight will be on both sides, particularly Carlton, who head in as favourites.

Like West Coast, the Blues are winless in 2025, despite heading into the season with high expectations after making finals in 2024.

The Michael Voss-coached side have led at half-time in all four of their matches but have faded when the heat has gone on in the second half. They went down by 17 points to Collingwood last weekend and found it hard to trouble the scoreboard with just six goals for the evening.

West Coast’s poor record over the past few seasons shows no signs of abating. They were no match for GWS last weekend, going down by 81 points.

This shapes as a real confidence booster for the Blues and I expect the shackles to be released with a big win. George Hewett will sneak under the radar, while Charlie Curnow can have a day out against a questionable Eagles defence.

Carlton have won the past four games between the two sides by an average margin of 77 points
George Hewett has averaged 33 disposals in his past three matches against the Eagles
West Coast have lost their past seven at the Adelaide Oval by an average margin of 68 points.
Jesse Hogan booted nine goals against the Eagles last weekend, who will stop Charlie Curnow?

Head to Head

Carlton have won the past four games between the two sides by an average margin of 77 points. Brodie Kemp booted five goals the last time the two sides met, while Patrick Cripps and George Hewett each had 35 disposals.

Hewett has averaged 33 disposals in his past three matches against the Eagles. Nic Newman has averaged 27. Liam Duggan has averaged 24.7 in his past three against the Blues.

Carlton Blues Form Analysis

Carlton have gone down by 20 points or less in their four games this season. Two of those have been to finalists from last year in Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs.

They venture outside of Victoria for the first time Carlton have won their past two at the Adelaide Oval, venturing to the venue twice in 2024 for a 10 point win in Gather Round against Fremantle before a 36-point victory over Port Adelaide in Round 13.

The Blues rank 3rd for clearances this season and get their chance to connect better with their forwards. Their highest score this season has been just 75 points in the Bulldogs match.

Charlie Curnow has booted four goals in his past two matches, while Brodie Kemp bobbed up with five a fortnight ago. He was goalless last week. Patrick Cripps was another that was quiet against the Magpies with just 16 disposals but averaged 27 in his three games prior to that. George Hewett has averaged 27.25 this season and is leading the Blues disposals.

Carlton lose Lachie Cowan due to a hamstring injury. Harry McKay is in the mix to return, while Matt Cotrell is edging closer from an ankle injury. Jordan Boyd and Matt Carroll will be considered.

West Coast Eagles Form Analysis

West Coast’s four losses this season have been by an average margin of 56 points. They could only manage seven goals in the loss to GWS last weekend and rank 16th for scoring in 2025.

Andrew McQualter’s side rank last for clearance differential (-13.3) and last for disposals.

Liam Baker is one of only two player averaging more than 20 disposals (23). The other is Ryan Maric (21).

The Eagles have lost their past seven at the Adelaide Oval. Six of those have been by more than 39.5 points and the average margin in those losses has been 68 points.

West Coast Eagles Team News

Jake Waterman is a solid chance of returning from injury. Liam Ryan will come back in after missing with illness last week. Jack Hutchinson is expected to be available. Harry Edwards is in the mix to return to defence.
