Collingwood vs Brisbane Lions Predictions

The Lions should have been hosting the Pies, but a coronavirus outbreak in Brisbane means this takes place at Marvel Stadium. That is a major advantage for Collingwood, who have a great record at the venue.

A tough week is predicted to end with Brisbane slipping to 0-3 for the start of the season, although don't expect a blowout.

  • Collingwood have won 8 of their last 9 matches at Marvel Stadium.
  • Collingwood have won 6 of their last 7 matches against Brisbane Lions.
  • Collingwood's Jordan de Goey kicked 4 goals in his last match.
  • Brisbane Lions have lost their last 3 matches.
  • Brisbane Lions have seen their last 7 matches go over the total points line.

Head to Head

Collingwood have had Brisbane's measure in recent years, although the Lions did take out the only meeting last year. It was a low-scoring 42-34 win for Brisbane at the Gabba in Round 15.

The Magpies had won six straight prior to the 2020 defeat.

Collingwood Form

Collingwood bounced back from an opening round loss with a much-improved performance against Carlton last week.

The Magpies defeated the Blues 106-85 at the MCG last Thursday with Jordan De Goey kicking four goals from seven scoring shots.

Collingwood had lost by 16 points in a 69-53 defeat to the highly-rated Western Bulldogs in Round 1.

Collingwood Team News

Collingwood make one change with Jamie Elliott ruled out for up to three months after he fractured his leg in the win over Carlton last week.

Chris Mayne comes into the side as his replacement, starting on the interchange. Will Hoskin-Elliott comes into the forward line.

Brisbane Lions Form

Brisbane Lions are facing up to a potential 0-3 start to the season after a controversial 81-80 defeat to Geelong at GMHBA Stadium last week.

Having suffered a surprise 125-94 defeat to Sydney Swans at the Gabba in Round 1, Chris Fagan's side were on the receiving end of a dubious holding the ball decision with seconds remaining against Geelong.

The Lions have had a tough week in Melbourne after being unable to return to Brisbane due to a coronavirus outbreak in the city.

Brisbane Lions Team News

Brisbane have named Brownlow Medal winner Lachie Neale despite doubts over his fitness.

Defender Marcus Adams has been named on the interchange bench as he plays for the first time since Round 1 last season.

Deven Robertson comes in for his first game of the season, and Connor Ballenden is named after being permitted to fly into Melbourne.

Jarrod Berry missed the defeat to Geelong with a hamstring strain and won't be risked. Keidean Coleman, Oscar McInerney, Jaxon Prior and Harry Sharp are left out.
