Essendon Bombers vs Gold Coast Suns Predictions

The Essendon Bombers come into their second match of the AFL campaign on the back of a superb performance as they hammered the Hawthorn Hawks 124-65.

The Gold Coast Suns struggled to get up to speed in Round 1 as they were swatted aside in a 110-61 loss to the Sydney Swans and another defeat is predicted.

Head to Head

The Bombers have the better of this contest over the last few years, winning 103-55 in 2022 and 98-30 in 2021.

Essendon Bombers Form

The Bombers were brilliant in Round 1 as they hammered the Hawthorn Hawks 124-65 in a game that put all of their qualities on full show.

Their fantastic 59-point victory means most fancy them to pick up a second-straight win against a struggling Suns side.

Sam Weideman will be backed to star yet again, while Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti also looked excellent on his return.

Essendon Bombers Team News

Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti is injured and misses the game.

Gold Coast Suns Form

The Suns looked well off the pace in game one as they were hammered by the Sydney Swans.

Their 49-point loss will have knocked the confidence of a side that were backed to potentially make the finals series this year.

Too many turnovers and free kicks became their undoing, and they will need to tighten up this week as they face a very difficult trip to face the Bombers.

Gold Coast Suns Team News

Lachie Weller plays his first game since Round 12 last year and Malcolm Rosas also comes in.

Alex Davies, Mabior Chol and Jy Farrar are all omitted.

Gold Coast Suns Team List

B: Weller, Collins, Macpherson

C: Lukosius, Miller, Swallow
HF: Ainsworth, Casboult, Jeffrey
F: Holman, King, Flanders
FOLL: Witts, Rowell, Anderson
I/C: Fiorini, Rosas, Hollands, Uwland
EMG: Blakely, Chol, Farrar, Sexton

Verdict

I am backing the Bombers to come out on top in this one. They have had the better of the Suns in recent years and looked good in game one. I am also backing the Bombers to win by 1-39 points.
