Essendon Bombers hosts the Western Bulldogs at Metricon Stadium on Friday with an exciting game in store between two teams who like quick flowing play.

Essendon has won their last two games, beating Collingwood and North Melbourne impressively. Their only loss in their last five games has come against Carlton by one point.

The Dogs were very poor against Carlton last week, but had won their previous three matches.

The Dogs have not lost to Essendon since 2014, can they keep that winning run intact?

Essendon Form & Team News

Essendon is in flying form and have put themselves well in contention as top eight contenders for this season.

Their win two games ago against Collingwood lit up many fans, and they certainly do look a force for teams to beat in the competition.

Dylan Shiel will miss the game due to a suspension from last week. He is likely to be replaced by live-wire Ned Cahill, who has been exceptional for the Dons in their scratch matches.

From the injury list, Conor McKenna is hoping to take his place after surgery on his finger during the week. He will undergo a test to be named in the final squad to take on the Dogs.

Western Bulldogs Form & Team News

The Dogs have been erratic this season and we still don't have a great gauge on where they are at. They had strung together three wins in a row before last week's loss to Carlton, but with a poor record against that team, they should be able to match up better against the Dons this week.

Essendon vs Western Bulldogs Match Up

The key match up for this fixture looks between Anthony Mcdonald-Tipungwuti and Caleb Daniel.

Tippa is a barometer for the Dons. When he is booting goals and laying tackles, his side rarely puts in a poor performance.

Daniel has been one of the shining lights out of the Bulldogs defence this season, hurting his opponent on the way out of the back 50 with quality disposal by foot. He'll look to make McDonald-Tupungwuti accountable on the rebound while Tippa's scoreboard impact will dictate just how closely he's marked.

Essendon vs Western Bulldogs Key Stats

  • The Dons have only lost one match this season
  • The Bulldogs have mixed their form in 2020
