Fremantle Dockers vs Collingwood Magpies Preview

Fremantle come into the game at 4-4 and were disappointing in their match against St Kilda. I'm predicting their end on negative win-loss with Collingwood backed to bounce back from a narrow loss to Geelong last time out.

The two sides played out a draw last year at Optus Stadium with Freo staging a late fightback to level up at 75 apiece.

Collingwood won the three games prior to that between the two sides by an average margin of 36 points. They include a 36-point win at the venue in 2022. Collingwood are also two from three against the Dockers at the venue.

Fremantle Dockers Form

Fremantle have been inconsistent in 2025 and have dropped a couple of games they were expected to win in the past three weeks- a 10 point loss to Melbourne in Round 6, as well as last week’s effort. Those two losses were split by a solid 18-point win over Adelaide at Optus Stadium in Round 7.

There has been a bit of a reliance on Caleb Serong and Andrew Brayshaw in the middle of the ground. These two were quiet against the Saints and the results showed further up the ground with the Dockers managing just 5.3.33.

They rank 14th for points per game, 16th for clearances and 15th for disposals. Sarong and Brayshaw average over 27 disposals per game and there is a drop-off after that. Josh Treacy has kicked 20 goals from eight matches and will be a key target up forward.

Hayden Young is set to miss the next six weeks with another hamstring injury. Jaegar O’Meara and Nat Fyfe remain on the sidelines.

Collingwood Form

Collingwood’s six-match winning streak ended last weekend with their three point loss to Geelong. The Magpies have had one of the toughest draws in 2025. Seven of their eight matches have been against last year’s finalists and they are 5-2 from those contests.

Josh Daicos had 32 disposals last weekend, while his brother, Nick, had 28. Nick is averaging a tick over 30 this season, while Josh is at 28.

Collingwood rank 4th for clearances and 5th for inside 50s but it is their pressure that has been a standout, limiting their opposition to just 69 points per game, topping the competition for fewest points conceded.

At the other end, they have shared their goals. Brody Mihocek booted four last weekend and has 15 for the season from seven matches. Jamie Elliott has 16 from eight.

Collingwood Team News

Collingwood have just a five day turnaround from the match against Geelong and may look to rest a few players. Jeremy Howe is a chance to come back in, while Ed Allan and Charlie West will be considered.
