Geelong Cats vs Brisbane Lions Predictions

The two premiership contenders both started the season with shock defeats last week. Brisbane are facing up to going 0-2 with a poor record in head to heads against Geelong.

The Cats are without Patrick Dangerfield, but should win a tight one at home.

  • Geelong Cats have won 35 of their last 40 matches at GMBHA Stadium.
  • Geelong Cats won both matches against Brisbane Lions last season.
  • Geelong Cats have won 10 of their last 11 matches against Brisbane Lions.
  • Brisbane Lions haven't won in Geelong since 2003.

Head to Head

Geelong dominate this match up with the Cats winning 10 of the last 11 matches against Brisbane Lions.

That includes victories in both matches last year. The Cats won 73-46 in the home and away season and 82-42 in the preliminary final at the Gabba.

The Lions haven't won in Geelong since 2003.

Geelong Cats Form

Geelong Cats' disappointment of Grand Final defeat to Richmond Tigers last spilled over into a huge Round 1 upset last week.

The Cats were slow out of the traps in Adelaide against last season's wooden spoonists the Crows, and never recovered.

The were down by 43 points in the third quarter but did at least produce some quality late in the game in the 103-91 defeat.

Patrick Dangerfield collected 26 disposals in the loss, but he will now sit out the next three weeks through suspension.

Geelong Cats Team News

Patrick Dangerfield will be a huge loss as he begins a three-week suspension. He was found guilty of concussing Adelaide's Jake Kelly.

Sam Menegola is ruled out through injury, while Josh Jenkins and Zach Guthrie are dropped. In come Zach Tuohy, Charlie Constable, Jack Henry and debutant Francis Evans.

New recruit Jeremy Cameron looks unlikely to be fit enough to make his Cats debut. Mitch Duncan is also still out.

Joe Daniher kicked two goals on his Lions debut last week, but it was youngster Zac Bailey who led the way with a hat-trick of goals.
