Geelong Cats vs GWS Giants Predictions

After a disappointing loss for the Cats last week, they get their second chance. They face the Giants, who remain alive after a one point win over rivals Sydney in last week's Elimination Final.

The Cats were humbled by the Giants just four weeks ago and have lost three of their last four matches, but I'm tipping Geelong continue their impressive record in AFL Semi-Finals with Toby Greene a big loss for GWS.

  • Geelong Cats have won 5 of their last 6 AFL Semi-Finals.
  • GWS Giants have won their last 3 matches against Geelong Cats.
  • GWS Giants have covered the line in 7 of their last 8 matches as an underdog against Geelong Cats.

Head to Head

The Giants have won the last three matches against the Cats, including an 84-65 win in Round 21 at the start of August.

Overall, the Cats edge the head to head 6-5 with one draw between the sides.

Geelong Cats Form

Geelong were very average last week against Port Adelaide in the Qualifying Final as they lost 86-43.

The Cats have been a touch off over the last month, also losing to the Giants and Melbourne Demons after the siren. Their only win in the last four matches came against St Kilda.

Can they bounce back here at Optus Stadium where they have played some good footy?

Geelong Cats Team News

Mark O'Connor will miss the next fortnight with a hamstring injury, but Zac Tuohy comes into the side following injury.

The Cats have left out Luke Dahlhaus and Sam Simpson as the selection table and managed veteran Shaun Higgins, who is among the emergencies.

Esava Ratugolea is recalled along with Max Holmes.

GWS Giants Form

The Giants are getting on a bit of a run at the moment after winning their last four matches, including a one point win over Sydney Swans in the Elimination Final last weekend.

GWS had secured their spot in the finals on the back of wins over Geelong, Richmond Tigers and Carlton.

Superstar Toby Greene will miss three weeks of footy, so his season is all over. The talisman will be a huge loss for the Giants. GWS now need to stand up without star man Greene.

GWS Giants Team News

Toby Greene will miss the rest of the season through suspension after his bump on the umpire.

Young gun Tom Green fractured his arm last week and is also out along with veteran Sam Reid.

Adam Kennedy has not recovered from a hamstring strain in time, so Bobby Hill and Conor Stone come into the Giants side.

Missing Toby Greene could prove decisive for GWS Giants. Geelong are now the dominant favourites and they are backed to win this one by 1-39 points.

GWS can keep it close and cover the line again though.
