Geelong Cats vs Hawthorn Predictions
The old rivals face off once again in what is set to be a blockbuster Easter Monday at the MCG. Geelong are tipped to edge a close game with a 1-39 winning margin predicted.
- Geelong Cats have won 10 of their last 15 day matches against Hawthorn by 1-39 points.
- Geelong have failed to cover a -22.5 line in their last 3 matches.
- Hawthorn have won 3 of the last 5 matches against Geelong.
Of their last five clashes, Hawthorn have won three. But the last time they met was an onslaught of goals going the way of Geelong in what was a 10-goal victory last year.
The matches between these two sides are rarely that wide, so I am predicting that this one will fall in the 1-39 bracket and go the way of last season's runners-up Geelong Cats.
Geelong Cats Form
Geelong were a little lucky to be in a 1-1 position after what should have been an after-siren goal awarded to the Brisbane Lions last week.
Geelong were lucky to hold on 81-80 against Brisbane who surged in the last quarter, only to be robbed of a free kick that would have resulted in an after-siren goal.
The Cats showed up in Round 1 expecting a victory but were put to bed by last season's wooden spoonists Adelaide Crows.
Geelong Cats Team News
The Cats will welcome back both Mitch Duncan and Sam Menegola with open arms, two perennial ball winners,
But Gary Rohan is out until Round 5 after copping a suspension.
Patrick Dangerfield is still a couple of weeks away as he also serves his suspension, while Jeremy Cameron is expected to be available for his debut sometime over the next month.

The Geelong team list is yet to be released.
Hawthorn dug deep to beat the Essendon Bombers in the opening round after trailing by eight goals at one point in the match, but were simply not good enough against the reigning premiers Richmond last week.
The Hawks came back from eight goals down to Essendon Bombers to kick a goal in the final 90 seconds to win the the match in the opening round.
They then faced a confident Richmond outfit in what was the Dusty Martin show. He put on a clinic, ultimately beating the Hawks in the first half of the game as the Tigers won 78-49 last weekend.
The key for the Hawks is for them to make a quick start to this game and try and hit the board early, as the Geelong midfield lineup is so dominant.
Hawthorn Team News
Chad Wingard is expected to walk back into the senior side which will be a big help throughout their midfield and forward line.
Will Day pulled up with an ankle injury last week and his fate will be written over the coming week as to the extent of the injury.
Main forward Jack Gunston still looks at least a month away from playing again.
