Gold Coast can overcome a poor recent record against Sydney when the two sides square off on Sunday in AFL Round 7.

The Suns have won just four of 17 matches between the two sides but are in the box seat for this contest, having won four of five this season, while Sydney are 2-4.

Gold Coast tasted defeat for the first time this season, going down to Richmond by 10 at Marvel Stadium last weekend, despite having more scoring shots and dominating the inside 50 battle (62-42).

Sydney couldnt edge past Port Adelaide at the SCG and another loss will be a big dent to their finals aspirations.

They have struggled to cover the loss of key players due to injury, while big names in Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner have not had the impact they did in 2024.

Expect the Suns to get on top in the middle with Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell to continue their solid form.

Gold Coast won their first four matches with three of those at margins of 50 points or above. They have played at People First Stadium just once this season for a one point win over Adelaide.

Damien Hardwick’s side top the competition for points scored per game and inside 50s, while they are 3rd for clearances.

Matt Rowell has been a beast in the middle and is averaging 28 disposals, while Noah Anderson is at 30+ per game. Ben King has kicked 18 goals from five matches, while Ben Long sits on 13.

It will be interesting to see if Gold Coast tinker with their forward set up after looking a bit too top-heavy last weekend. Ethan Reid might be the player to make way. Brayden Fiorini picked up 47 disposals in the VFL last weekend and could come in. David Swallow is still a couple of weeks away.

Sydney Swans Form Analysis

It has been a concerning start to the season for last year’s Grand Finalists, registering just two wins with those coming over North Melbourne and Fremantle. They lost their Gather Round clash to Collingwood by 31 before dropping the Round 6 match to Port.

Finding the footy has been an issue with Gulden out and Heeney and Warner low on output. They rank 14th for disposals and have kicked over 80 points just once this season.

Logan McDonald is likely to make his first appearance for the season after resuming from his injury via the VFL. Tom Hanily might be the one to make way and was subbed out of the Port game. Peter Ladhams had an excellent game in the VFL but may find it hard to sneak in.
