GWS Giants vs Adelaide Crows Predictions

GWS Giants have elected to go for a settled lineup for their season opener. Can they use experience to their advantage against the second youngest AFL list in the Adelaide Crows?

GWS can call on their stars such as, Greene, Kelly, Whitfield and Green to lead by example and I'm tipping they will be too good for the Crows.

GWS might play a more free flowing style of game under their new coach with would better suit their team list.

  • GWS Giants only won 6 matches in 2022
  • GWS Giants lost 8 of their last 10 matches
  • GWS Giants have won the last 2 matches against Adelaide Crows by 59+ margins
  • Adelaide Crows won 3 of their last 4 matches in 2022

Head to Head

GWS Giants have given the Adelaide Crows absolute hidings at their past two meetings. The Giants won 113-54 in round 7 last year and won 106-39 in 2021.

Toby Greene kicked four goals in the game last year and two against the Crows in 2021, whilst Josh Kelly had leather poisoning last year with 41 disposals.

GWS and Adelaide have both won five games from the last 10 meetings.

GWS Giants Form

GWS Giants lost eight of their last 10 games, finishing in 16th position, though their season was disrupted mid way when long term coach moved on and interim coach Mark McVeigh took over.

In their last game of 2022, GWS lost to Fremantle at Manuka Oval Canberra, 89-69.

GWS defeated Gold Coast Suns by 45 points in their practice match. Lachie Whitfield showed his class with 25 possesions and 2021 number 3 draft pick, Finn Callaghan was impressive.

GWS Giants Team News

GWS haven't included any new players to their Round 1 team, so will go into the game with a stable lineup, and they are not missing any key players.

GWS will look for sharp improvement from their less experienced players, such as, Finn Callaghan, Leek Alir and Connor Idun and Jacob Wehr to give assitance to their experienced classy midfielders.

Adelaide Crows Form

Adelaide won three of their last four matches in 2022, beating Carlton, North Melbourne and West Coast before getting thumped by Port Adelaide in a showdown 111-55 in the final round of the season.

Adelaide won three games on the road in 2022 so are not without chance.

In their pre season game, Adelaide Crows defeated Fremantle 77-66. Izak Rankine booted three goals in a good performance for his new club.

Adelaide Crows Team News

Adelaide Crows have included three new players into their team, with speedy forward Izak Rankine being the main recruit to watch.

Tyler Brown has come across from Collingwood and pick 17 draftee, Max Michalanney is likely to debut.

The forward line of Walker, Fogarty and Rankin, is what Adelaide will be relying heavily on.

Verdict

I am tipping GWS Giants to have enough class on their home deck to handle the youthful Adelaide Crows. Giants pair Toby Greene and Josh Kelly will be the main players to look out for.
