GWS Giants vs Brisbane Lions Tips

GWS Giants haven't beaten Brisbane since 2019 with two of the Lions six straight wins coming in Canberra. Can they make that three in the capital and extend the winning run to seven in a row?

GWS have won their past two games in Canberra, but were on a long nine-game losing streak at the venue prior to that. I'm backing the Lions and for the game to go over the total.

  • Brisbane has won the past 6 matches against GWS.
  • Brisbane has kicked an average of 119 points per game against GWS in their past 4 matches.
  • GWS has lost 9 of its past 11 games at Manuka Oval.
  • 5 of the past 7 games between GWS and Brisbane has gone Over the Game Total.

Head to Head

Brisbane has won the past six regular season games against Greater Western Sydney, beating them 108-87 last season with Charlie Cameron kicking seven goals.

The 21-point win was the Lions second consecutive victory over the Giants at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

GWS Giants Form

The Giants were the team to beat up until they ran into Carlton last week who handed them their first loss of the season 117-98. The Giants had two 20-point leads reeled in by the Blues who really got firing in the third, kicking 8 straight goals.

It has become a slightly noticeable trend with the Giants lacking the stamminer to hold out their opponents throughout the whole match, just as it was in their narrow victory against St. Kilda the week prior.

As well-structured the backline of the Giants can be, putting up a brick wall at times, it needs to be maintained if the GWS are going to stay a top-four side.

Brisbane Lions Form

Brisbane played in a torrential contest against Geelong on Saturday night and it was the Cats that handled the elements better beating Brisbane 63-37, with the Lions unforgivably inaccurate, kicking just 4 goals from 17 scoring shots.

The Cats midfield got the better of the Lions in the wet and once again has raised questions about the quality of Brisbane after losing their third game from as many at the Gabba this season.

Brisbane are having a shocker season shooting on goal, despite leading the league with 59 inside 50’s per game, the Lions are ranked worst in the AFL with a Goal Efficiency of 18.1% and Shooting Efficiency of 41% which is third-worst in the league.

Brisbane can extend their regular season win streak to seven against the Giants. I'm also expecting a high-scoring battle.
