Head to Head

Sydney took a 29-point victory over their cross-town rivals GWS in round 8 this season, taking control of the match in the second quarter and kicking away in the fourth.

The Swans have now won four of the past five Battles of the Bridge and also lead the head to head battle by a slim margin 6-5 since 2019.

GWS Giants Form

Kicking 9.19 (73) you would not expect to get away with a victory, however the Giants were lucky last week that they were facing Port Adelaide who have been atrocious in front of goal this season and kicked 6.15 (51) handing GWS a 22 point win and just their third victory in 8 games.

After their fast start to the year the Giants have been looking worse and worse and the inaccuracy against Port has highlighted their troubles.

GWS have generally been fast starters this season, leading in 10 of 13 matches at the first break, however, they have often run out of gas with their pressure strategy and have let the game slip in the fourth. A reverse of what they did last weekend.

The Giants have now won just 2 of their past 6 matches and are flirting with the logjam of 7 teams behind them that are just one win from their fifth position on the ladder.

GWS Giants Team News

Sam Tayor ruptured a testicle against Port and is understandably out indefinitely.

Lachie Ash is expected to be available, while Stephen Coniglio and Darcy Jones will be tests later in the week.

Sydney Swans Form

If Sydney stay healthy nobody is coming near them this season. Another 42-point victory over Adelaide in round 14 has once against stamped their authority on the league.

Sydney’s average winning margin of 37.91 proves that they are dominating, winning by no less than 14 points this season giving them a percentage of 149.8. The numbers do not have to be more complicated than they score the most and concede the least.

The Swans are simply taking their chances inside 50 ranked in the top-two in goals per inside 50 (28.5%) and scoring shots per inside 50 (44.6%). They are also restriction their opposition clearances to 21.2 per game which is the best in the AFL.

Sydney Swans Team News

Robbie Fox has overcome his shoulder injury and is available. The Swans are close to being at full fitness which is another danger for the rest of the league.

Sydney should have little trouble in covering the 12.5-point line and kick past their team total of 90.5 points.
