Hawthorn can continue their solid recent record against Brisbane with a win at the MCG on Saturday. 

The Hawks dropped their Round 10 clash to the Gold Coast Suns by eight points and have a win-loss record of 7-3 this season. They enjoy the home ground advantage for this match and have claimed their past five matches over Brisbane. 

The Lions were also on the receiving end of a loss in Round 10, going down to Melbourne by 11 points in an upset. 

The premiers will be on the rebound and have a host of midfielders that can trouble to Hawks. But with some key players to come back in, as well as a slight edge in scoring options inside their front half, the home side can pull through in what shapes to be close one.

Hawthorn have taken out the past five matches between the two sides and have been the home side in all of those. They were 25-point winners at the MCG in 2023 and at Marvel Stadium in 2024. 

Lachie Neale has averaged 28 disposals in his past three matches agaisnt the Hawks, while James Sicily (27) and Jai Newcombe (26) have also been prominent. Charlie Cameron has booted six goals from his past three matches against the Hawks.

Five of Hawthorn’s seven wins have been by less than 39.5 points, while their three losses have fallen in that bracket, with two by less than 10 points. They are four from five at the MCG in 2025. 

The Hawks rank 4th for points per game and have kicked more than 90 points in seven of their 10 matches. Jack Gunston has kicked 23 goals from seven matches, while Mabior Chol has 20 from 10.  

Hawthorn rank 5th for disposals this season. Karl Amon had 30 in the loss to Gold Coast and averages 24, while Jai Newcombe has had 25+ in six of his past nine matches.

Hawthorn rested a number of key players last weekend, including Lloyd Meek. That duo should come straight back in. Jarman Impey missed due to the birth of his first child and will be back. Connor Nash returns from suspension.

Brisbane Lions Form Analysis


Brisbane opened up with five wins to start their premiership defence but have been a bit shaky since with two losses and a draw as well as two further wins from their last five matches. 

The Lions rank 1st for clearances and 5th for disposals over the course of the season and have a fleet of midfielders that are capable of producing 25+ disposal matches. Lachie Neale and Will Ashcroft both had 30 last weekend. Ashcroft is averaging 27 this season. 

Darcy Gardiner was swung forward last week and booted four goals, while Logan Morris booted three. Morris has 16 goals from nine matches. Eric Hipwood has booted 20 from his 10 matches.

Oscar McInerney was a late withdrawal from the Melbourne match due to soreness and is likely to come back in for the Lions. Jarrod Berry is set to return from concussion.
