Hawthorn vs Fremantle Dockers Predictions

The Dockers have been on a fine run and have also won six straight against Hawthorn. I expect that to continue on Saturday with Freo to cover.

  • Fremantle has lost just one of their past 7 games.
  • Fremantle have covered the line in 4 of their past 5 games against Hawthorn.
  • Fremantle have averaged 102.4 points in their past 5 matches.
  • Fremantle have scored 93 points or more in their past 5 matches against Hawthorn.

Head to Head

The Dockers have had no problem shrugging off the Hawks of late, winning the last six matches against Hawthorn including both matches in 2023 by a margin of 69 points and 37 points.

Fremantle won the last match against Hawthorn at UTAS Stadium by 62 points back in 2021.

Hawthorn Form

The Hawks were flying high but their wings got clipped against the Cats in round 17, with Geelong hammering their old rivals 110-59 at GMHBA Stadium.

The Hawks simply had no answer for the running game of the Cats and turning the ball over 76 times in the match which is 12 more than their season average, they also gave away 24 intercept marks to Geelong well above the average of 15.8 in their 5 games prior.

With the weight of possession heavily in the Cats favour and Geelong winning the inside 50 count 63-40, the scoreline is no surprise.

The Hawks finals hopes are now on the line over the next month facing top-eight hopefuls Collingwood, GWS and Carlton all in the next month after Freo this week.

Hawthorn Team News

Mitch Lewis is out for the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the Hawks loss to Geelong.

James Sicily will be a test to prove the fitness of his shoulder before the weekend.

Jack Ginnivan is in the same boat needing to prove the strength of his leg after a fracture, while Calsher Dear will have a test on his ribs before selection.

Fremantle Dockers Form

Fremantle continue to claim their stake as premiership contenders after backing up their win against Sydney in round 16 with a dominant 51-point victory over Richmond last weekend.

The Dockers have now lost just one of their past 7 matches and find themselves in third position on the ladder.

The question marks around Fremantle heading into the season was around their attack and how well they could capitlise when and if they could move the ball forward.

After struggling in the beginning of the season with just that, getting just 48 inside 50s per game the Dockers have responded over the past 7 weeks by improving that statistic to 55.1, a 13% increase.

Freo are also a top-six team in the AFL with a scoring shots per inside 50 of 45.7%.

Fremantle Dockers Team News

Alex Pearce will be a test later in the week overcoming an arm injury. Brandon Walker will also need to be cleared of an AC joint complaint.

Sean Darcy will miss the game due to concussion protocols. Josh Draper is expected to be cleared of a groin injury and will play against the Hawks.
