Fremantle will make it four wins on the trot, inflicting more pain on an out-of-sorts Melbourne outfit.

The Dockers are now in positive territory with a win-loss record of 3-2 and come off a clinical 61-point win over Richmond at the Barossa in Gather Round last weekend.

Melbourne have lacked system going forward this year with their big names struggling to win the clearance battle, while connection with their forwards has been non-existent, leading to low scores in their losses this season.

Last weekend it was a 39-point defeat at the hands of Essendon. The Demons showed some signs of life in the third quarter of that game with five goals but could only manage three for the rest of the match.

Hard to see them turning things around in time for this match. Expect the Dockers to grind to another win with Josh Treacy and Andrew Brayshaw prominent again.

  • Fremantle have won the past three matches between the two sides
  • Melbourne have lost their past four matches by 39 points or more.
  • Josh Treacy has kicked 12 goals from his past three matches
  • Andrew Brayshaw has averaged 33 disposals in his past three matches against Melbourne

Head to Head

Fremantle have won the past three matches between the two sides. They include a 92-point win in Alice Springs in Round 12 last season, as well as a 50-point win at Optus Stadium. Fremantle have won the last two between the two sides at the MCG.

In the past three matches, the Dockers midfield trio of Andrew Brayshaw, Caleb Serong and Hayden Young have averaged 33, 29 and 27 disposals respectively. Melbourne’s Bayley Fritsch and Kozzie Pickett have booted five goals in the past three clashes.

Melbourne Demons Form Analysis

Melbourne are a shadow of the side they were a couple of seasons ago and after a promising first up performance when losing to GWS by three points, they have since lost their past for by 39 points or more. They went down 57-96 to Essendon last weekend and it was a similar scoreline the week prior against Geelong (46-85).

Connection with their forwards inside 50 has been a major issue. They led the count against Essendon 51-43 but could only manage eight goals. They are averaging just 8.4 goals per game this season, the second worst of any side in the competition.

Clayton Oliver has been finding plenty of the footy, averaging 29 disposals, while Christian Petracca and Kozzie Pickett have been sharing midfield and forward duties, averaging over 20+ disposals and 1+ goal.

Melbourne Demons Team News

Steven May and Kozzie Pickett will be monitored at training with both nursing lower leg issues. Judd McVee is a possible inclusion for Melbourne, while Matthew Jefferson should be available. Interesting to see if Simon Goodwin pulls the pin on some big names that have been underperforming this season, including Jacon van Rooyen.

Fremantle Dockers Form Analysis

Fremantle opened up with two losses but have rebounded with three wins. Two of those have been against moderate opposition in West Coast (38 point win) and Richmond (61), while they accounted for the Bulldogs by 16.

The Dockers have travelled to Victoria just once this year for a 78-point loss to Geelong in Round 1 but have a solid recent record at the MCG winning four of their past seven at the home of footy, while they went down by a solitary point to Essendon at their last visit at the venue, back in Round 22 last year.

Fremantle will be hoping Josh Treacy can bring his form to the home of footy. He has kicked 12 goals in his past three matches, including a six-goal haul last weekend. Michael Frederick has kicked nine from his five matches. Andrew Brayshaw and Caleb Serong are averaging 25+ disposals.

Fremantle Dockers Team News

Fremantle pulled up unscathed out of the Richmond match. Hayden Young got through his first game of the season. Nat Fyfe wont be in the side- the veteran tweaked his hammy in the WAFL on the weekend. Luke Jackson is another big name on the sidelines. He is joined by Patrick Voss, who was handed a three-match suspension at the tribunal for his hit on Nick Vlaustin last weekend.
