North Melbourne can push Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

The Kangaroos have turned things around in the past month or so, winning two matches and drawing against last year’s premiers, Brisbane. With the exception of the result against Collingwood, their losses have been close ones.

Alistair Clarkson’s side come into this as the ‘home’ side as part of a deal to sell games to the west and took out the first leg with a win over West Coast in Bunbury last weekend by 10 points.

Fremantle have also been improvers and come in with a three-match winning streak. They pulled off an 11-point win over the Gold Coast Suns a fortnight ago before enjoying the week off with the bye.

The battle in the midfield shapes as an interesting one. North Melbourne have been dominant in the clearances in recent times. Fremantle will look to more of the same from Caleb Serong and Andrew Brayshaw. That pair were instrumental in the win over the Suns and have some good recent form against North Melbourne.

The Dockers are favoured in this but North Melbourne can stick with them. Take the Roos with the start. Brayshaw will find plenty of footy for the Dockers, while Paul Curtis looms as a target up forward for the Roos.

  • North Melbourne have conceded just 74 points per game in the last five rounds.
  • Andrew Brayshaw has averaged 30+ disposals in his past four matches against North Melbourne.
  • Paul Curtis kicked three goals last weekend
  • The Kangaroos took out the most recent clash between the two sides at Optus Stadium

Head to Head

Fremantle have won five of the past six matches between the two sides and were 26-point victors the last time they met, which was back in Round 14 last season at Marvel Stadium.

Interestingly, the Kangaroos took out the most recent clash at Optus Stadium by a point early on in 2023. Fremantle’s Andrew Brayshaw and Caleb Serong have averaged 30+ disposals in their last four matches against North Melbourne.

North Melbourne Kangaroos Form Analysis

North Melbourne have won two of their past three. They defeated Richmond by four points back in Round 10 before losing to Collingwood by 45. The Kangaroos returned from their bye with the win over West Coast. A highlight of North Melbourne’s recent form is their improved defence, conceding just 74 points per game in the past five rounds.

The Kangaroos rank 2nd for clearances in that time period and dominated West Coast in this area last weekend. Tristan Xerri was influential in the ruck with 10 clearances, 37 hitouts and 22 disposals and will look to give his side first use. Colby McKercher had 35 disposals. Harry Sheezel is averaging 29 disposals this season.

Paul Curtis booted three goals against the Eagles, while Cam Zurhaar booted two. That duo, as well as Nick Larkey, are going at 2+ goals per game this season.

Charlie Comben copped a knock to his upper back/shoulder region and was subbed out against the Eagles. He will be assessed at training. Jackson Archer is nearing a return from a hamstring injury. Will Phillips is among those in the VFL that are knocking on the door for selection.

Fremantle Dockers Form Analysis

Fremantle have won their past three matches and notched up a 34 point victory over GWS and a 49-point win over Port Adelaide in the lead up to their triumph over the Suns. They have played at Optus Stadium on six occasions this season for four wins.

Andrew Brayshaw and Jordan Clark racked up 30 disposals against the Suns, while Caleb Serong had 27. Brayshaw has had 30+ in six of his past eight matches. Shai Bolton and and Patrick Voss kicked three goals each in that match. Josh Treacy has kicked 23 goals from 12 matches in 2025.

Fremantle Dockers Team News

Alex Pearce is in doubt for the clash due to a stress reaction in his leg. Karl Worner was substituted out against Gold Coast with a hamstring injury and is set to miss. Veterans in Jaegar O’Meara and Michael Walters are edging closer to a return. Nathan O'Driscoll could be considered after returning via the WAFL before the bye.
