The Western Bulldogs look set to hand North Melbourne another big loss in AFL Round 17.

The Bulldogs have blown away a number of sides towards the bottom end of the AFL ladder this season and come off a nine-point win in a high scoring match against the Sydney Swans last weekend.

North Melbourne had been the improvers of the competition in recent times but came unstuck with an 85-point loss at the hands of Hawthorn in the same round. They sit in 16th spot on the ladder with a win-loss record of 4-9-1, while the 9-6 Bulldogs are 6th.

Expect a high scoring affair here with the Dogs renowned for high scoring. They have the firepower to cover the line in this match up and we can expect their twin-towers, Sam Darcy and Aaron Naughton to be amongst the goals.

  • The Western Bulldogs have won the past eight matches between the two sides with those coming at an average margin of 54 points
  • Sam Darcy has kicked 11 goals in his three matches since returning from injury.
  • Five of the Bulldogs past six matches against sides in the bottom half of the ladder have resulted in wins by over 70 points
  • Aaron Naughton kicked three goals last weekend.

Head to Head

The Western Bulldogs have won the past eight matches between the two sides with those coming at an average margin of 54 points. They have already met in 2025 with the Bulldogs scoring by 16 points in Round 1.

Marcus Bontempelli has averaged 32 disposals in his past three matches against North Melbourne, while Bailey Dale has averaged 26. Harry Sheezel has averaged 30 for the Kangaroos. Sam Darcy has kicked nine goals from his past three matches against North.

North Melbourne Kangaroos Form Analysis

It as back to bad habits for North Melbourne, who conceded 150 points in the loss to Hawthorn. They had conceded over 100 just once in the eight weeks prior to that, which was 108 against Collingwood.

Prior to the loss against the Hawks, North Melbourne had won three of five, conceding an average of just 74 points per game in that period. In the past five rounds, the Kangaroos top the competition for clearances and are 4th for disposals.

Luke Davies-Uniacke had 28 disposals against Hawthorn, while Luke Parker had 29. Colby McKercher had 34 from half-back. Harry Sheezel had a relatively quiet match with 20 disposals but had 25+ in his three games prior. Nick Larkey booted five goals. Larkey has kicked nine from his past three matches.

George Wardlaw will miss with another concussion. Luke Parker, Harry Sheezel and Luke McDonald all pulled up with various issues out of the Hawthorn match and will be assessed at training. Bailey Scott and Cooper Harvey are among those with some solid VFL form and will be considered to come into the side. The key defender, Charlie Comben, is getting closer towards a return from a shoulder injury.

Western Bulldogs Form Analysis

The Western Bulldogs have won their past three. 70+ point wins came against St Kilda and North Melbourne before the Sydney match. Five of their past six matches against sides in the bottom half of the ladder have resulted in wins by over 70 points. Sydney was the exception.

Over the course of the season, the Dogs have averaged more points than any other side. They have hit the 100+ mark in their past three games. Sam Darcy has booted 11 goals in that period. Joel Freijah booted four against the Swans. Aaron Naughton booted three and has 10 from his past five.

In the past five rounds, the Bulldogs rank 4th for clearances per game and they top the competition for disposals. Bailey Dale has had 25+ disposals in four of his past five matches.

Western Bulldogs Team News

The Bulldogs arent expected to make too many changes to their side. Riley Garcia has some strong form in the VFL. Jedd Busslinger is waiting in the wings. Liam Jones should be nearing a return from a calf injury but is likely to find it hard to sneak in.
