Geelong will bounce back with a win over Port Adelaide, putting a further dent on the Power’s finals aspirations.

The Cats come off a loss at home in Round 9 to the GWS Giants, going down in a thriller by four points. They now sit with a win-loss record of 5-4.

Port Adelaide are 4-5 and were also on the receiving end of a narrow loss with that coming at the hands of their cross-town rivals, Adelaide, by five points in the Showdown between the two Adelaide based sides.

The Power will be keen to atone for a massive defeat at the hands of Geelong in last year’s finals series. But with Bailey Smith providing plenty of ball inside 50, the Cats forwards can convert with a winning score at the Adelaide Oval.

  • Geelong defeated Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval by 84 points in the Elimination Final last year.
  • The Cats have won two of the past three against the Power at the venue.
  • Bailey Smith is averaging over 30 disposals this season.
  • Jeremy Cameron has kicked four goals the last time the two sides met.

Head to Head

Port Adelaide were destroyed by Geelong in the Qualifying Final at the Adelaide Oval last season by 84 points. That was the last time the two sides met. Tyson Stengle and Jeremy Cameron both booted four goals. The Power defeated the Cats earlier in the year, however, at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong.

The Cats have won four of the past six matches between the two sides and have won two of the past three at the venue. Jeremy Cameron has kicked eight goals from his past four against the Power. Willie Rioli has kicked nine for Port Adelaide from his past three against Geelong.

Port Adelaide Power Form Analysis

Port Adelaide have won three of their four matches against interstate opposition at the Adelaide Oval this season. Those wins were against Richmond, Hawthorn and North Melbourne.

They have been a high clearance side and dominated Adelaide in this area last weekend (56-29), leading to an inside 50 count of 62-41. Ollie Wines, Connor Rozee and Zak Butters all had 30+ disposals in that match.

Converting their inside 50s into scores has been an issue in 2025 with the Power ranking 14th for scoring. Mitch Georgiades has kicked 20 goals from nine matches but they lack another tall target. Willie Rioli, Sam Powell-Pepper and Darcy Byrne-Jones are small forwards that are averaging 1+ goal per game.

Travis Boak starred in the SANFL with 36 disposals last weekend and the veteran can return. Rory Atkins also found plenty of the footy. No injuries out of the Adelaide match last weekend.

Geelong Cats Form Analysis

Geelong have featured in a number of close matches this season with five of their nine games decided by less than 10 points. They held out the premiership fancies, Collingwood, a fortnight ago by three points before their loss to the Giants last weekend.

The Cats have just lacked a bit of experience in the backline with injuries to Tom Stewart and Jake Kolodjashnij. GWS spearhead, Jesse Hogan, took hold last week with seven goals.

Geelong are a low disposal side, moving the ball long and direct by foot and rank 5th for points scored this season. Jeremy Cameron has booted 20 goals, while Patrick Dangerfield has 17 to his credit. The gut running midfielder, Bailey Smith, is averaging over 30 disposals per game.

Geelong have travelled interstate on two occasions this season for a loss to Brisbane at the GABBA and a win over Adelaide during Gather Round at the venue for this match, the Adelaide Oval.

Tom Stewart missed the match last week with ongoing knee soreness and is a chance to return but Rhys Stanley, Cam Guthrie and Jack Martin remain on the sidelines.
