Port Adelaide vs Carlton Preview

Carlton have never won at the Adelaide Oval against Port Adelaide, and the 11-year hoodoo might well continue. But I like the Blues with a +6.5 start in Thursday Night Footy.

With the promise of a free-flowing game, back over 156.5 points in the game.

  • Carlton have won their past two matches against Port Adelaide.
  • Port converts just 23.9% of their inside 50’s into Goals which is right on the league average.
  • The past 4 matches between Port Adelaide and Carlton have gone Over the Game Total.
  • 4 of 5 away games for Carlton have gone Over the Game Total.

Head to Head

Carlton have won the previous two encounters against Port Adelaide over the past two seasons, beating the Power by three points in Round 5, 2022 and smashing them by 50 In Round 18 in 2023.

Port won six straight games prior to that and have not been beaten at Adelaide Oval by the Blues with Carlton getting their last win in South Australia against the Power at the Football Park back in 2013.

Port Adelaide Form

Port are on a decent run at the moment winning their past three matches, including a 59-point whooping of North Melbourne last weekend.

Despite the scoreline, it still wasn’t a pure and clean performance from Port, with the Kangas hanging in there until halftime.

The Power are still struggling in front of goal kicking 16.11 in the match, missing multiple chances to push well clear much earlier in the contest.

No team is converting their Inside 50’s into Shots on Goal more efficiently than Port, however, the quality of their chances is obviously low as they are only hitting the league average of converting Inside 50’s to Goals just 23% of the time.

Port Adelaide Team News

Captain Connor Rozee is under an injury cloud and will be a last-minute call.

Carlton Form

Carlton are a tough trend to follow this season with real inconsistency in their results which has them right in the clump of mid-pack teams sitting in eighth place on the ladder with a 7-4 record.

Three of Carlton’s losses have come in the past 5 games losing to the Cats, Pies and Swans, however their one-point win against Melbourne three weeks ago was their best performance of the year, well the first three quarters were at least.

When Carlton are playing their best footy and are on the attack they are easily a top-four team, however, lapses in-game and from match to match have seen their results go up and down this season.

Carlton Team News

Injury news to come for the Blues.

Verdict

With Carlton getting 6.5 points as the underdog, the safety of a goal is too enticing to pass up. Both of these clubs are at their best when they are on the attack so expect the low total to be surpassed.
