Port Adelaide vs Essendon Bombers Predictions
This game on paper looks a one sided affair after what eventuated in round one. Port Adelaide coasted home as dominant winners against North Melbourne while Essendon led by eight goals, only to be beaten at the final siren by one point to Hawthorn.
- Port Adelaide sit atop of the AFL ladder.
- Port Adelaide have won five of their last seven matches at Adelaide Oval - all by a margin of 1-39 points.
- Port Adelaide have beaten Essendon Bombers by 50+ points in the last 2 meetings.
- Essendon lost by a point to Hawthorn in Round 1 having led by 40 points in the game.
Head to Head
Port Adelaide have won the latest two meetings by a combined margin of 109 points - by 50 points last year at Adelaide Oval and 59 points at Marvel Stadium in the 2019 season.
Essendon won the previous three matches when Port Adelaide were only half the side that they are today.
Port Adelaide Form
The Power finished atop of the AFL ladder last season and kicked things off this season in exactly the same spot after a 117-65 first round win over North Melbourne.
One of the keys to their win was the addition of former Bomber Orazio Fantasia to their forward line. He always looked dangerous with ball hand, and booted four goals and four behinds.
Charlie Dixon was a big presence up forward while their midfield was strong. Their downfall is height, where if they played against a tall forward line, they may see themselves caught out in defence from time to time this season.
Port Adelaide Team News
Port Adelaide are currently playing with an almost full strength side.
Connor Rozee is close to a return from foot surgery, while Hamish Hartlett makes his way back into the senior side for Riley Bonner.

Essendon Bombers Form
The Bombers choked in Round 1 and there is no other way to describe it. Leading with ease over Hawthorn late in the second quarter by eight goals, the snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
An onslaught of goals by Hawthorn in the third term saw the margin whittled back down to under five points at three-quarter time.
Essendon still led with 90 seconds remaining in the match, yet still getting rolled 92-91.
That match could well sum up their season and the inconsistent footy they could bring to us over the next 20-odd weeks.
