St Kilda vs Brisbane Lions Predictions

Brisbane Lions can enhance their minor premiership claims with their ninth consecutive win. The Lions have dominated recent history over the Saints and that trend should continue.

  • 13 of 19 St Kilda matches have gone under the game total this season.

Head to Head

Brisbane have won seven of the past eight games against St. Kilda including the last five matches consecutively.

The Saints put up a good fight against the Lions at the Gabba in round 15 this season, pushing Brisbane to their limit in a 126-106 win for the home team.

St Kilda Form

St Kilda haven’t had 100+ scores in consecutive games since rounds 3 and 4 of the 2022 season, however, they have done just that in round 19 and 20 with a 113-41 win over West Coast followed by a 108-55 win against Essendon last week.

The competition might not have been of any top grade but it is a big milestone for the Saints whose attack has been heavily criticised this season for under achieving and their playing style being too withdrawn and too heavy on keeping players behind the ball.

The important note in these victories is they have still managed to control things defensively and minimise the scoring of their opponents, by playing cleaner and finding uncontested possession instead of easy clearances to a contest.

Mattaes Phillipou has been added to the team list ahead of the clash with Brisbane, overcoming a hip problem.

Brisbane Lions Form

Brisbane simply continue to get better and have now won 8 games in a row and are sitting pretty on 50 points, a win and a half away from Sydney in top spot on the ladder.

The Lions did what no other team has managed to do and that was to beat the Gold Coast at People First Stadium, winning the Q-Clash comfortably 93-65.

The derby victory is important but it was more in the way that they did it. They held onto their slim lead against the Coast by winning the contested possessions and playing the majority of the game inside their own forward half, despite the pressure from the Suns.

Brisbane are getting close to as full fitness as they can be without their season-ending knee contingent. Chris Fagan continues to do a miraculous job juggling injury and developing his young players into AFL calibre talent.
