St Kilda vs Fremantle Dockers Predictions

Fremantle are value to win as underdogs against the St Kilda Saints on Saturday. The Dockers' best performances have come against teams outside the top 10 and I think this can continue.

  • Fremantle have won 5 of 6 games against teams that are currently outside the top-eight.
  • Fremantle have conceded the third-least amount of points of any team in the AFL averaging just 70.1 points against per game.
  • St Kilda
  • 13 of 18 games involving St Kilda and Fremantle have gone Under the Game Total in 2024.

Head to Head

It has been a pretty even battle over the past five seasons with St Kilda winning the head to head stats 4-3 with the visiting team also taking the majority of the wins at 4-3.

St Kilda took the only victory between these two clubs in 2023, beating the Dockers 67-52 in Round 1.

St Kilda Form

St Kilda have been one of the disappointments of the 2024 season for me, mustering just three wins from their 9 matches this season, despite still being one of the best defensive units in the league, averaging just 77.2 points against per game, which is sixth-best in the AFL.

There just isn’t anything happening up front for the Saints in 2024, averaging just 74.1 points per game which is the fifth-lowest average total in the AFL.

Ploughing through the stats there isn’t anything really that pops out to explain why St Kilda are getting such poor results, beside the fact that they sit mid-to-low on average in the majority of key statistics.

St Kilda Team News

James Van Es has been officially been ruled out for the season with an ankle injury.

Arie Schoenmaker has not passed concussion protocol and will miss a second week, while Brad Crouch is expected to make a return from a knee injury.

Fremantle Dockers Form

After a couple of good performances bouncing back from three losses, Freo were given a harsh reminder that they are not at the level of the big guns in the AFL in 2024 with the Swans dusting them by 48 points at home at Optus Stadium in Round 9.

Brody Grundy dominated the Hit Outs with 33 wins with the Swans winning that battle 41-13 to put the Dockers on the back foot at every stoppage.

Freo had no answer for the Sydney who kicked their way around Perth Stadium controlling the contest with 128 marks to the Dockers 97.

Losing to the Swans was expected but this week’s match against the Saints is one that the Dockers need to get right if they want to be fighting for a top-eight finish.

Fremantle Dockers Team News

Sean Darcy could be a big boost for the Dockers on Saturday which would certainly help their Hit Out issues if their ruckman returns from a calf injury. Sam Stuart is also expected to return from a knee injury.

Ethan Stanley will miss a month with syndesmosis.

Verdict

This game is destined to hit Under the Game Total with both teams playing quality defensive footy and not offering much in attack.

Fremantle have been strong against bottom-ten competition and will get the win away from home.
