St Kilda vs West Coast Eagles Predictions

Saints were tipped to charge back into the top eight this year, but they have stumbled out of the gate in season 2021 and now face a dangerous West Eagles side at Marvel Stadium. West Coast are flying and should win this match comfortably.

  • St Kilda have lost their last 2 matches.
  • St Kilda lost to West Coast Eagles at the Gabba last year by 15 points.
  • West Coast Eagles have won 11 of their last 12 matches against St Kilda.
  • West Coast Eagles have won 7 of the 14 matches played at Marvel Stadium.
  • West Coast Eagles have won 2 of their 3 matches this season by 1-39 points.

Head-to-Head

West Coast boast an impressive record against St Kilda, winning 11 of the last 12 matches against the Saints.

Back in Round 17 last year, the Eagles won against 65-50 to conclude the home and away season with victory at the Gabba.

The last time St Kilda beat West Coast was back in 2017. Before then it was back in 2011 that the Saints previously got the better of the Eagles.

St Kilda Form

The Saints finished last year in sixth place, making the finals for the first time since 2011.

Another strong season and return to the finals for 2021 was what was expected, however the Saints sit 1-2 and are vulnerable.

The Saints won unconvincingly in the wet Round 1 against the GWS Giants but have been beaten twice on the trot. Last week they went down to the Bombers by an eyebrow raising 75 points.

Coach Brett Ratten called the performance “embarrassing” as well as coming at a huge cost with midfielder Jade Gresham out for the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.

Jack Steele is in form contributing heavily in the midfield as the Saints are in the top 5 in clearances.

St Kilda Team News

Jade Gresham is out for the season after sustaining an ankle injury against the Bombers, while Dan Hannebery and co-captain Jarryn Geary have suffered setbacks in their respective injuries.

Paddy Ryder has returned to training after taking some time off for personal leave, but he is unlikely to play against the Eagles.

Ruckman Rohan Marshall returns against in form opponent Nic Naitanui. Jimmy Webster and Jack Bytel also come in for the Saints.

West Coast Eagles Form

The Eagles looked in complete control against last year's minor premiers Port Adelaide last week, jumping out to a 52-point lead at half-time.

In the end, they won 108-71 at Optus Stadium and the Eagles are fifth on the ladder with a 2-1 record.

Their only defeat was a seven-point defeat to the ladder leaders the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

West Coast lead the competition in marks and contested marks with Tom Barrass and Josh Rotham first and second in the competition amongst all players in the same categories.

The three tall forwards for the Eagles Oscar Allen, Jack Darling and Josh Kennedy sit on 25 goals after three rounds.

West Coast Eagles Team News

Captain Luke Shuey reaggravated his hamstring injury late in the game against the Power and is going to miss a few weeks. Jake Waterman comes in for Shuey.

Xavier O’Neill looks to be the captain’s replacement after gaining an impressive 31 possessions in the WAFL.

Elliot Yeo’s return seems to be imminent, but he is not ready yet.
