Sydney Swans vs Adelaide Crows Predictions

The Swans upset Brisbane Lions and the Crows downed Geelong Cats last week in two of the biggest Round 1 upsets. Who will start the season 2-0?

While the Crows caught the eye, they were aided by a sloppy Cats performance and lost the second-half 56-30. The Swans traded blows with the Lions throughout on the road in Brisbane and were the more impressive. They can win this by 1-39 points.

  • Sydney Swans defeated Brisbane Lions 125-94 in Round 1.
  • Sydney Swans' Buddy Franklin is set to play for the first time since August 2019.
  • Sydney Swans have won 7 of the last 10 matches against Adelaide Crows.
  • The last 6 matches between the sides have been settled by a 1-39 point margin.
  • Adelaide Crows defeated Geelong Cats 103-91 in Round 1.
  • Adelaide Crows have lost 17 of their last 19 day matches.

Sydney Swans hold a 7-3 head to head advantage over the Adelaide Crows in the last 10 meetings, but the last six have been shared equally.

The Swans won the only clash last season with a three-point victory at the Adelaide Oval. Sydney scored just four points in the final quarter but clung on for a 74-71 victory.

Sydney Swans Form

Having finished third from bottom last season, the Swans made an eye-catching start to the 2021 campaign.

Despite conceding the first three goals of the game inside five minutes, Sydney were inspired at the Gabba. They ran out 125-94 winners of a game they were predicted to lose by 20-plus on the handicap line.

In the new-look Swans side, Rising Star nominee 18-year-old Errol Gulden kicked three goals on debut and forward Logan McDonald impressed with three of his own.

The Swans recorded five wins overall in 2020 but had the hallmarks of finals possibles in their opening weekend performance.

Sydney Swans Team News

Buddy Franklin is in line to make his return from a series of hamstring injuries. The star forward hasn't played since Round 23, 2019.

Errol Gulden and Logan McDonald gave a glimpse of what the future looks like for Sydney with starring roles in the win in Brisbane.

James Rowbottom is ruled out, while Robbie Fox, Sam Naismith and Ben Ronke remain out.

Adelaide Crows Form

Last year's wooden spoonists pulled off a significant upset last week as they defeated Geelong Cats 103-91 at home.

The Crows were quick out of the traps and led by 43 points in the third quarter. Despite losing the second-half 56-30, the head work was done.

It was a much-needed boost for Adelaide fans, who had endured a nightmare season in 2021.

The Crows finished last season with three wins from their last four games having gone winless to that point, but couldn't avoid finishing bottom of the ladder.

Adelaide Crows Team News

Five-goal Taylor Walker was instrumental in the Crows' Round 1 victory and his form will be crucial for Adelaide this season.

Jake Kelly will miss the game after suffering concussion and a broken nose in an incident with Geelong's Patrick Dangerfield. Luke Brown is also out.

Mitch Hinge dislocated his shoulder and is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Adelaide deserve some credit for the way they started against Geelong. But Sydney produced a more complete performance. With Buddy Franklin back, they should be too good with a 1-39 point victory the value.
