Head to Head

Essendon Bombers have won three of the last four meetings with the Sydney Swans, including a 79-73 victory at the SCG last season.

Over the last 12 clashes, however, the Swans hold a 9-3 head to head advantage. Sydney have also won nine of the last 10 clashes at home.

Sydney Swans Form

Sydney Swans proved themselves as real contenders this season when toppling reigning premiers Richmond Tigers in Round 3.

The Swans moved to 3-0 for the campaign for the first time since 2016 after winning 117-72 at the MCG on Saturday.

Tom Papley kicked four goals against Richmond, while young gun Sam Wicks collected 21 disposals, 13 marks and scored three goals.

The victory followed a 125-94 upset of the Lions in Brisbane in Round 1 and a 121-88 win at home to Adelaide Crows in Round 2.

Sydney Swans Team News

Having made his return to action in Round 2, Buddy Franklin was managed and given the weekend off last week.

Franklin will come back into the Swans side at the SCG to strengthen an already rampant forward line with Hayden McLean dropping out.

Essendon Bombers made a mockery of St Kilda on Saturday in one of the most dominant performances of Round 3.

Having gone 0-2 in the opening two weeks, the Bombers were unstoppable as they recorded a 143-68 win over the sorry Saints at Marvel Stadium.

Jake Stringer kicked four goals on his comeback, while Cale Hooker topped him with five of his own.

The Bombers had choked in Round 1 to go down by a point 92-91 against Hawthorn. They were no match for Port Adelaide in Round 2, losing 119-65 in Adelaide.

Dylan Shiel, Jye Caldwell and Sam Draper are all out, but Zach Reid, David Zaharakis and Michael Hurley are closing in on comebacks.

Verdict

Both sides kicked a bag last week and a high-scoring contest is predicted with over the total points line. A margin of 10 points or less has happened in the last three heads to heads, so the Swans to win by 1-39 is value with a blowout unlikely.
