Sydney Swans and GWS Giants break new ground on Thursday when they clash in a Sydney derby that takes place at Optus Stadium in Perth.

With no footy being played in NSW, the AFL Round 12 clash will take place on the west coast.

Sydney have disappointed this season. They were massacred by St Kilda in Round 9 and had every chance against Collingwood in Round 10 only to lose the game.

GWS have won their last three games, including a win in the wet over Richmond Tigers and victories over Gold Coast Suns and Essendon Bombers.

Sydney Swans Form

Sydney have been in poor form this season, lacking something through their side and it may well be a strong forward line.

Tom Papley is nearly leading the Coleman, just about the shortest player in the side yet he is their best goal kicker, which tells us something about their talls.

Look for Sydney to draft a tall forward this year and look onto next year for a rebuild.

GWS Giants Form

GWS are not back to their best form, but they are winning matches and that is all that needs to be done.

They have won their last three matches against low grade opposition (Richmond when they had half a side), but what has been impressive is that they find a way to win.

They looked all out against Essendon at three-quarter time and during the last quarter, but kept hunting the ball and were keeping it inside their forward 50.

They have a great recent record against the Swans so hopefully the trend can continue.

Sydney Swans vs GWS Giants Head To Head

GWS Giants have won their last three clashes against Sydney, but their last meeting was just a two point difference.

GWS are in the better form and are striding towards finals so we expect them to win another derby.

Sydney Swans vs GWS Giants Betting Odds

GWS are the extreme short priced favourites at 1.28 while Sydney are clear outsiders at 3.60.

The line has been set for GWS at -19.5.

Sydney Swans vs GWS Giants Match Up

Dane Rampe and Jeremy Cameron look the clear match up heading into this match.

We have seen Cameron get up the ground more often and we know Rampe is a great lockdown defender.

Cameron kicked two goals last week, and Rampe is still playing with a broken hand so he will have a task and a half.

If Rampe can keep Cameron quiet inside 50 and restrict him to kicks up the ground, he can keep the GWS forward's influence on the game to a bare minimum.

Sydney Swans vs GWS Giants Key Stats

  • GWS average 32 clearances per game
  • Sydney average 40 inside 50s per game
