Port Adelaide can push Sydney at the SCG on Easter Sunday.

The Power will be out to prove their form over Hawthorn was no fluke. They bought the heat early to the Gather Round fixture, at one stage leading by 71 points in the second quarter before taking their foot off the accelerator in the last half, eventually running out 30-point winners.

On the same weekend, Sydney were rolled by 31 points by Collingwood, taking their win-loss record to 2-3, which is the same as Port Adelaide’s at this stage of the year.

The Swans have battled to cover the absence of some of their star players this season and are winless in their two games at home, going down to Hawthorn by 20 and Brisbane by four. They also have to deal with a poor recent record over the Power.

With question marks over the red and white, Port can serve it right up to the Swans in this fixture.

Take the Power with the start, while Zak Butters can continue his good form.

  • Port Adelaide have won eight of the past nine matches between the two sides.
  • Port have won three of the past four at the SCG.
  • Zak Butters has averaged 25+ disposals in his past three against the Swans.
  • Butters is averaging 31 disposals this season.

Head to Head

Port Adelaide have won eight of the past nine matches between the two sides but the Swans won the most recent encounter, the 2024 Preliminary Final at the SCG by 36. Port have won three of the past four at the SCG.

Zak Butters has averaged 25+ disposals in his past three against the Swans. Willie Rioli has booted five from his past three. Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner both had 20+ disposals and 2 goals in the Preliminary Final.

Sydney Swans Form Analysis

Sydney lost their first two matches by 20 to Hawthorn and four to Brisbane before responding with wins over Fremantle by three and North Melbourne by 65. In the loss to Collingwood last weekend, Isaac Heeney returned to some of his best form with 28 disposals and two goals but it wasnt enough.

The Swans have not been able to get their hands on the footy enough this season and rank 16th for disposals and clearances, leading to their ranking of 13th for scoring.

Matthew Roberts is averaging just under 23 disposals, the most of any Swan. Hayden McLean booted three goals last weekend and has kicked six from three matches. Joel Amartey has booted nine from his five matches.

Sydney Swans Team News

Joel Amartey will be out for a number of weeks with a hamstring injury. Logan McDonald is a possible replacement but may be a little rusty after missing much of the pre-season. Lewis Melican or Aaron Francis could come in. Justin McInerney will return from suspension. Robbie Fox, Callum Mills, Tom Papley and Errol Gulden are among the big names on the sidelines.

Port Adelaide Power Form Analysis

Port Adelaide have been a bit of a jekyll and hyde side, producing contradictory results. They were poor in losses to Essendon (12 points) and St Kilda (17 points) before turning it on against Hawthorn.

That performance came on the back of some midfield dominance from Zak Butters (33 disposals) and Jason Horne Francis (29). Connor Rozee moved to half-back and had 28. The Power 2nd in the competition for disposals with Butters averaging 31.5 this season, while Rozee and Ollie Wines are each around 29.

The Power need to make sure they defend better than what they have in some of their losses, ranking 15th for tackles and 14th for fewest inside 50s conceded. They are conceding over 13 goals per game, sitting in the bottom half of the AFL.

Port Adelaide Power Team News

Miles Bergman will be assessed at training after being subbed out of the Hawthorn win with a knee issue. Darcy Byrne-Jones is set to return from suspension, while Jed McEntee and Ryan Burton are a chance to be available to return from injury.
