Head to Head

Port Adelaide have won eight games in a row against Sydney, dating back to Round 1 of the 2017 season.

They clashed in Round 21 earlier this season with Port handing Sydney their biggest and most embarrassing loss of the season winning 148-36.

Only one of the last six games have been played at the SCG with the Swans holding a 10-5 record in games played at the SCG since 2000.

Sydney Swans Form

The Swans booked a week off and a ticket to a prelim with a six point win over little brother GWS Giants in week 1 of the Finals.

The Swans led for only 5 minutes and 44 seconds in the match but it was enough to steal victory from the hands of defeat.

Trailing by as much as 28 points late in the 2nd term, Sydney mounted a comeback through their small forwards with Isaac Heeney and Tom Papley both kicking goals at key times in the resurgence.

Sydney were not dramatically better than their opponent in any statistical measure but were able to execute more efficiently at the right time.

It was small differences around the ground over the course of the game which contributed to the ultimate victory by only 6 points.

Sydney Team News

Callum Mills injured his hamstring at training last week and will miss this clash with Port. It is unclear if he will become available should Sydney make the Grand Final next weekend.

Port Adelaide Form

Port Adelaide did last week what only 3 teams have been able to achieve since round 6...beat Hawthorn. They did it in true Port Adelaide form too, firing from the get go, relinquishing the lead for only 12 minutes during the start of the second half.

Coming off an 84 point shellacking from Geelong a week prior, the Power held on against a fast finishing opponent with relentless pressure and commitment to the ball being the crucial difference between the sides.

Port Adelaide had the majority of Inside 50’s, Hitouts, Stoppage Clearances and Contested Possessions with both teams laying well over their season averages in Tackles.

Port Adelaide Team News

Todd Marshall is in concussion protocol and will miss this weekend’s match. It is possible he could return to the lineup should Port progress.

Kane Farrell has been said to have resumed “high speed running and sprinting” giving hope on a return this year.

Verdict

Sydney are backed to get the win here by 1-39 points with the Game Total predicted to go under. Isaac Heeney should again be key to a Swans victory.
