West Coast Eagles vs St Kilda Predictions

The Eagles broke a three game losing streak last week against the Crows, while the Saints three game winning run was ended in Round 18 by Port Adelaide.

Now West Coast have had a few weeks to gel with what is mostly their full squad, and at home against the Saints who have a big out in Rowan Marshall, they can cover the -15.5 line.

  • West Coast Eagles have won 8 of the last 10 matches against St Kilda
  • West Coast Eagles rank first in the AFL this season for marks per game, while they rank second for kicks per game and hitouts per game
  • West Coast Eagles' Josh Kennedy has kicked 3 or more goals in each of the last 4 home games against St Kilda
  • Five of the last 6 matches at Optus Stadium have gone under the total match points line
  • St Kilda rank third in the AFL this season for tackles per game, while they rank top four for kicks per game and clangers per game

Head to Head

From their last 10 matches, West Coast lead the head to head battle 8-2 over St Kilda.

St Kilda defeated West Coast by 20 points in Round 4 at Marvel Stadium this season, which was the last game between these two sides.

West Coast Eagles Form

Following a late goal from Josh Kennedy which secured a win for the Eagles against Richmond, they looked set for a good run home, especially given many of their key players were starting to come back.

They were instead flogged by the Western Bulldogs and Sydney Swans in consecutive weeks, but the most humialting loss came after that when losing to the bottom of the table North Melbourne at home.

Forced to pick themselves up last week in Adelaide, there were better signs for West Coast in a 42 point win over the Crows, giving them a bit of confidence following that horror run.

They can stay at least a game clear in the top eight with a win or be ripe for the picking if they drop this, so Saturday's fixture against the Saints could be a season defining one.

West Coast Eagles Team News

Josh Kennedy, Jake Waterman, Xavier O’Neill and Mark Hutchings all return.

Luke Edwards, Jack Petruccelle and Luke Shuey are all ruled out with injuriues.

St Kilda Form

The recent form of St Kilda has been practically the opposite of West Coast's, recording a hat-trick of wins prior to Round 18 following some very inconsistent efforts this season.

While it was only a 14 point loss to the Power who are currently in the top four, it was a very weakened Port Adelaide line up last Saturday, so a chance to further their finals push went begging.

Given the success that the Saints have had with the two-pronged ruck attack, Rowan Marshall is arguably their most important player and he's a big out for this Round 19 clash.

That's a big advantage for Nic Naitanui, a star tap ruckman and if he's able to dictate, St Kilda will need a plan to stop the Eagles, who prefer to hold possession with a kick-mark style of play.

St Kilda Team News

Saints lose Rowan Marshall due to covid isolation, while Tom Highmore and Daniel McKenzie have picked up injuries.

Nick Coffield, Paul Hunter and Oscar Clavarino are the ins.
