LA Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

The biggest rivalry in the NL sees the Giants host to the Dodgers at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California on Wednesday May 1st at 9:45 PM EST. The Dodgers had won four in a row before their loss to the Giants in Game 1, but Hyun-Jin Ryu has been solid in every start this season and can shut down a Giants team that has struggled to score runs.

LA Dodgers Form & Team News

The Dodgers had been in fine form until losing Game 1 of this series. L.A. has gotten pretty solid pitching on the season, but the main reason for their early season success is a lineup that ranks 2nd in Major League Baseball in runs scored.

Cody Bellinger is off to a smoking start to the season, leading the MLB in batting average and RBI and is tied for the lead in HR. The team is balanced on offense with Bellinger and Joc Pederson combining for 24 HR but Bellinger has twice as many RBI as the next leading player on the club.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (3-1 2.96 ERA) gets the starting nod for the Dodgers here and to say he has been steady on the season would be an understatement. Since his season debut when he only gave up one run he has given up two runs in each of his last four starts.

In Ryu’s last outing he gave up two runs on eight hits in seven innings in a 6-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ryu faced the Giants in his 2nd start of the season giving up, you guessed it, two runs on six hits in seven innings of work in a 6-5 L.A. win.

San Francisco Giants Form & Team News

The Giants were swept by the New York Yankees in their last series, giving up 24 runs in losing all three games. San Francisco has had big issues at the dish this season and the club ranks outside the top 25 in MLB in runs scored.

The Giants’ struggles are highlighted by Buster Posey leading batting average at under .240 and Kevin Pillar leading the club with only 17 RBI. Madison Bumgarner (1-4 4.30 ERA) will start against the Dodgers who have won once in his six starts this season.

In his last start Bumgarner lasted 5 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on 11 hits in a 7-3 loss to the Yankees. Bumgarner has given up nine runs in his last two starts and has given up at least four runs in three of his last four starts.

The Giants have lost Bumgarner’s last six starts facing a team with a winning record. In his 2nd start of the season he faced the Dodgers and gave up five runs in six innings in a 6-5 San Francisco loss. The Giants have lost 10 of their last 13 games against the Dodgers when Bumgarner has been on the hill.

LA Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants Head to Head

These rivals have split four games this season. Dating back to last season the Dodgers are 6-2 in their last eight games facing the Giants.

LA Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants Match Up

In the last seven games where Hyun-Jin Ryu has opposed Madison Bumgarner the Dodgers have won five times. Bumgarner can’t expect much help from the Giants’ batting lineup who will face the more than steady Ryu.
