Atlanta enter this series having cooled off, losing four of their last five games before heading to Chicago.

The Braves were swept in a three-game series at the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this month, but they responded strongly.

They swept Boston in a two-game series at home, winning 4-2 and 5-0, before winning back-to-back games at the New York Mets, 4-2 and 4-1.

Atlanta missed out on the series sweep as they lost the final meeting 4-3, but they did rebound at home to beat the Chicago Cubs 2-0 and 7-0.

However, the Braves lost the final meeting 7-1, and that was followed by three straight defeats against San Diego, 3-1, 9-1 and 6-5, before they finally stopped the rot with a 3-0 victory.

Chicago come into this series on the back of a poor series against Pittsburgh that saw them lose three times in four games.

The Cubs’ disappointing performance came as part of an underwhelming run of form over the past few weeks.

Having gone 1-2 in a home series with San Diego, they went out on the road and won two of their three meetings with Pittsburgh, sandwiching a 10-9 defeat with 7-2 and 5-4 victories.

Chicago then travelled to Atlanta where they were shutout in 2-0 and 7-0 defeats, before avoiding being swept with a 7-1 victory.

The Cubs failed to build on though, as they lost three of their four home games against Pittsburgh, losing 5-4, 9-3 and 3-2, with their only success being a 1-0 win in the third meeting.
