Atlanta Braves Form

Atlanta came into the playoffs having put together an 89-73 record to finish third in the National League East.

The Braves started strongly, but a couple of losing runds over the summer meant they finished six games behind Philadelphia in the division standings.

They did enjoy some good form in late September however, starting with back-to-back wins in Cincinnati.

Atlanta then bounced back from a defeat in Miami with a five-game win streak that was finally ended by Kansas City, setting up a big double-header with the New York Mets on Monday.

The Braves split that series, responding to an 8-7 loss with a 3-0 victory, and that meant they finished behind New York in the standings.

San Diego Padres Form

San Diego entered this postseason series having put together a 93-69 regular-season record to finish second in the National League West.

The Padres began the season slowly, but found their form over the summer as they charged into the playoffs.

They enjoyed a good run in the second half of September as they racked up nine victories during a 10-game spell.

San Diego cooled off in Los Angeles as they failed to back up a 4-2 win over the Dodgers, losing 4-3 and 7-2, but they did respond in Arizona.

The Padres won the first two games against the Diamondbacks, 5-3 and 5-0, before losing their regular season finale 11-2.
