The Dodgers ended last month on a great run that saw them back up a 2-1 victory in St Louis with a three-game series sweep of Seattle at home.

They then hosted Tampa Bay for a three-game series and won 7-3 and 3-1 either side of a 9-8 defeat.

Los Angeles then bounced back from a 3-2 series-opening loss to Baltimore with 6-4 and 6-3 victories against the Orioles to start a four-game win streak.

The Dodgers won the first two games in Arizona, 10-9 and 8-6, and then responded to a 14-3 defeat to the Diamondbacks with an 11-6 victory in the final game of the series.

Los Angeles entered this series having enjoyed some improved form in recent days, winning three of their previous four games.

The Angels ended August on a miserable run as they failed to back up a 9-5 win on the road in Kansas.

They dropped the last game of that series, 3-0, and then went on to lose their next six games, starting with 5-3, 5-4, 3-1 and 8-2 defeats in Toronto.

Los Angeles’ miserable form continued with 6-2 and 3-2 losses in Detroit, but they did finally stop the rot at the Tigers’ expense, winning the last game of the series, 3-2.

The Angels then lost the series-opener in Seattle, 9-5, only to bounce back and take the next two games against the Mariners, 5-4 and 3-2.
