The Padres lost five of their first eight games, but started to turn things around with a 3-2 victory over St Louis.

They then won one of their three outings in San Francisco, before returning home and taking two of their three meetings with the Chicago Cubs.

San Diego won the series opener 9-8, and then rebounded from a 5-1 defeat by blowing out the Cubs in the final meeting 10-2.

The Padres built on that showing in Los Angeles, sandwiching a 5-2 defeat to the Dodgers with 8-7 and 6-3 victories.

Milwaukee Brewers Form

Milwaukee came into this series on the back of a loss but in solid form, having won four times during a six-game road trip to reach 10-4.

The Brewers opened up on the road and swept the New York Mets in three games, before returning home to split a two-game series with Minnesota.

From there they sandwiched a 5-3 home defeat to Seattle with 6-5 and 12-4 wins, before heading out on the road for their next six games.

Milwaukee dropped the series opener in Cincinnati, losing 10-8, but rebounded to take the next two meetings, 9-5 and 7-2.

The Brewers then backed that up with 11-1 and 11-5 victories in Baltimore, only to miss out on a series sweep by losing the final meeting 6-4.
