The Rangers began with a 5-2 loss at home to Boston, but rebounded to win the next three meetings with the Red Sox, 4-1, 4-3, 3-2.

That run was ended when they lost another series-opener, as they fell to a 14-3 on the road in Cincinnati.

The Rangers hosted Tampa Bay for three games and swept the visitors thanks to 5-2, 6-4 and 4-3 victories.

The Cubs began the season in Japan with a two-game series against the defending champions Los Angeles Dodgers.

They lost both matchups, 4-1 and 6-3, before returning to the United States to split a four-game road series with Arizona.

Chicago found some form in their next series though, as they swept the Athletics with 18-3, 7-4 and 10-2 wins, and they backed up those success in their opening home series.

The Cubs recorded 3-1 and 7-1 victories over San Diego, before seeing their winning run end with an 8-7 defeat in the series finale.
