Texas made themselves the frontrunner in the AL West by winning seven of their last eight games.

The Rangers lost four straight games earlier this month, only to then reply with a six-game win streak of their own.

They blew cold again after that, losing four straight, but they turned things around in the home series against Boston, beating the Red Sox 6-4 and 15-5.

Texas then swept Seattle in a three-game series at home, beating the Mariners 8-5, 2-0 and 9-8.

The Rangers backed that up with a 5-1 victory at the Los Angeles Angels, before rebounding from a 9-3 loss with a 5-0 victory.

Seattle come into this series in desperate need of some wins after losing eight of their previous 12 games.

The Mariners’ have struggled for much of September and they saw their playoff hopes suffer a setback when they were swept at home by the Los Angeles Dodgers, losing 6-3, 6-2 and 6-1.

They steadied the ship in the road as they travelled to Oakland and swept the A’s with 5-0, 7-2 and 6-3 wins.

Seattle were swept themselves though on that trip, suffering 8-5, 2-0 and 9-8 defeats at the hands of Texas.

The Mariners then returned home and sandwiched a 6-2 win over Houston with 5-1 and 8-3 defeats to the Astros.
