Yankees vs Diamondbacks Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

While the Yankees have several key players on the DL, they have won three in a row and are in 2nd place in the AL East only 1.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays. They will face off against a Diamondbacks’ club that had won five in a row before losing their last two games.

New York has won four of their last five interleague road games and are 9-1 in their last 10 games overall. They are an attractive bet in this game, as while the Diamondbacks are 17-8 in their last 25 interleague home games they have lost two in a row, with both games at home, and have lost six of their last eight home games.

New York Yankees Form & Team News

Hard to believe the Yankees are in solid form with all the players they have on the DL. They have 2/3 of their Opening Day lineup on the DL including stars Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, who combined for 65 HR last season and have combined for only five this season with Judge having them all.

Luke Volt and Gary Sanchez have supplied the power for the Yankees, who rank 4th in the Majors in runs scored, each having eight HR and combining for 43 RBI.

In the first game of this series the Yankees turn the ball over to veteran CC Sabathia (3-0 2.40 ERA). New York has won all three of his starts this season and after tossing 10 scoreless innings in his first two outings he gave up five runs, four earned, in five innings allowing three HR in his last start, which was a 6-5 win over the L.A. Angels.

Even though Sabathia did not have the best last start with him on the hill the Yankees still have solid value, as they have won 20 of Sabathia’s last 27 interleague starts and have won seven of his last eight starts facing teams from the NL West.

The role players and call-ups are getting it done for the Yankees until the big guns return and they head to Arizona full of confidence facing the D-Backs.

Arizona Diamondbacks Form & Team News

The Diamondbacks were on the wrong side of history in their last game, as at home at Chase Field they lost to the Chicago Cubs 6-5 in 15 innings in the 2nd longest game ever at Chase Field. They lost the previous game only scoring one run, but they are still three games over .500 and in the heart of the NL West race.

Arizona is led by their lineup, which ranks 5th in the Majors in runs scored. They had been solid at the dish averaging 7.6 runs per game in their five-game winning streak before only scoring six runs in losing their last two games. Christian Walker leads the club in batting average and HR and Ketel Marte leads the team in RBI. The balanced Diamondbacks have six players that have at least 15 RBI and four everyday players are batting over .280.

Merrill Kelly (2-2 3.94 ERA) gets the start in this game for the Diamondabcks, who rank a pedestian 17th in the Majors in team ERA. Arizona had lost three stright with Kelly on the mound before his last outing where he went seven innings and gave up two runs in an 11-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He will be facing a hot New York lineup and in the two starts before his last one he gave up seven runs in only 8 2/3 innings of work. In Kelly’s two starts on the season where Arizona has won they have given him 21 runs of support while in the three losses they have only totaled five runs.

New York Yankees vs Arizona Diamondbacks Head to Head

These teams have not faced each other since the 2016 season where the Diamondbacks took two of three games against the Yankees.

Still, looking at some key trends New York has value in this game, as Arizona has lost eight of their last 10 games facing teams from the AL East and they have lost five of their last seven interleague games facing a team with a winning record.

New York Yankees vs Arizona Diamondbacks Match Up

Merrill Kelly has his work cut out for him in this game facing a New York lineup that scored 24 runs in sweeping the San Francisco Giants in their last series.

CC Sabathia is coming off his worst start of the season, but the Yankees still won behind a strong performance at the plate. The key in this game is can Kelly tame the hot Yankees’ bats? Tall order for sure.
