Panathinaikos vs Anadolu Efes Preview

Panathinaikos, the reigning Euroleague champions, thrive under pressure and have been dominant in the paint — a factor that should play a major role in Game 5. PAO are tipped to cover the handicap and advance to the Final Four.

Panathinaikos Form

Panathinaikos narrowly avoided defeat in Game 1, trailing by eight points heading into the final quarter before rallying to win 87-83. Juan Hernangomez was the standout performer with 20 points, 16 rebounds, and three assists.

Game 2 was less convincing, with PAO missing seven of their 21 free throws and committing more turnovers than Efes, contributing to a 79-76 loss. Cedi Osman led their scoring with 16 points.

The Greens stepped up in Game 3, claiming an 81-77 win in Istanbul. Kendrick Nunn delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting and grabbing 7 rebounds in 33 minutes.

They couldn’t close out the series in Game 4, falling 85-82, with Cedi Osman named man of the match after scoring 22 points (9/17 FG).

Anadolu Efes Form

Efes showed their quality in the first two games in Athens, narrowly losing the opener 87-83 despite leading heading into the final quarter.

Game 2 was a back-and-forth battle. Efes trailed for much of the contest but mounted a late comeback to win 79-76, led by Shane Larkin with 20 points, five assists, and three rebounds.

Poor rebounding cost them in Game 3, which ended in an 81-77 defeat. However, they bounced back to tie the series on Thursday with a dramatic 85-82 win. Elijah Bryant carried the team with 19 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Efes also made 13 of their 27 three-point attempts.

Verdict

Despite the Game 4 loss, Panathinaikos dominated the paint and should improve at home. I’m backing the reigning Euroleague champions to step up and secure a comfortable win to reach the Final Four.
