France suffered a heartbreaking semifinal defeat to Spain, falling short despite being tournament favorites. However, they’ll be determined to return home with a bronze medal. Italy lack the same depth and firepower, so I’m backing France to cover a –6.5 handicap in this third-place match.

France were widely seen as gold medal favorites at the start of EuroBasket 2025 but were stunned by Spain in the semifinals, losing 65-64 after missing a free throw that could have forced overtime.

In the group stage, Les Bleues opened with a tight 71-69 win over Turkey, then dominated Greece 92-56. They closed the group with a record-breaking 111-37 demolition of Switzerland — Janelle Salaun led that game with 23 points, two rebounds, and two assists.

France remained impressive in the quarterfinals, comfortably beating Lithuania 83-61. Illiana Rupert stood out with 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

Italy Form

Italy put up a strong fight in the semifinals against Belgium, narrowly losing 66-64. Lorela Cubaj recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

They started the tournament well, defeating Serbia 70-61 and then beating Slovenia 77-66 after a dominant first half. To top the group, they saw off Lithuania 65-51, with Cecilia Zandalasini scoring 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting.

Italy needed overtime to get past Turkey in the quarterfinals, eventually winning 76-74, with Cubaj again leading the way — 16 points (8/12 FG), seven rebounds, and two assists.
