Dallas Mavericks v Minnesota Timberwolves Free Tips: On fire Karl-Anthony Towns set to torch the Mavs
The Mavericks host the Timberwolves this evening, do they have any chance stopping KAT?
The Dallas Mavericks (23-51) welcome the Minnesota Timberwolves (43-33) to the American Airlines Center with the visitors favoured by 5½ points. The Mavs are in full-scale tank mode while the T-Wolves are 4-12 ATS over their past 12 games, so our betting attention turns to Karl-Anthony Towns.
Dallas have been woeful this season and the less said the better. The emergence of rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. has been promising and Dwight Powell could be an improver, but this season has basically been a Dirk Nowitzki farewell tour.
The Mavs are 2-7 over their last nine games and probably want the season the end as soon as possible. The latest was a 103-93 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday but coach Rick Carlisle’s only concern should be developing Smith Jr, Powell, Maxi Kleber, Kyle Collinsworth and Jalen Jones.
Minnesota are currently seventh in a congested Western Conference as they aim to make the playoffs for the first time since 2004. The T-Wolves have been incredibly inconsistent this season, highlighted by a 101-93 defeat against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.
They rebounded with a 126-114 win over Atlanta on Wednesday on the back of a monster game from Karl-Anthony Towns. The 22-year-old scored a career high and new franchise record 56 points with 15 rebounds and six triples. Despite Minnesota winning the three previous games against Dallas this season, it could be wise to stick with Towns.
Minnesota has had its way against the Mavericks, winning the three previous games this season by an average of 14 points. Jimmy Butler featured in all three games for the T-Wolves but won’t feature here after a knee injury has kept him out for the past 14 games.
They visitors should win the game and are favoured by 5½ points but after going just 4-12 ATS over their past 12 games it might be wiser to stay with the hot hand of Karl-Anthony Towns.
- Minnesota have won the last 4 games against Dallas.
- Karl-Anthony Towns averages 24.7 points against Dallas this season on 14.3 shots per game (3 games).
- Karl-Anthony Towns averages 27.9 points in his last 9 games.
- Karl-Anthony Towns averages 34.2 points when he attempts 20 or more field goals this season (6 six games).
Karl-Anthony Towns’ confidence will be sky high heading to Dallas and he can certainly damage the Mavs front court including 39-year-old Nowitzki. After becoming just the third player in NBA history to register at least 50 points, 15 rebounds and five 3s in the same game, Towns should have no problems getting 25 or more points here.
He took a career-high 32 shots against Atlanta which was just the sixth time he has taken 20 or more shots this season. In these games he is averaging 34.2 points. Towns has averaged 24.7 points against Dallas on just 14.3 shots in three games this season and i expect him to get close to 20 shots in this game. It makes sense to stick with the big man.
