The Timberwolves, who went 56-26 in the regular season, made a statement in the first round of the playoffs as they swept Phoenix in four games.

They then made a stunning start to this series with defending champions Denver, as they travelled to Ball Arena to record 106-99 and 106-80 victories.

Minnesota soon surrendered that lead though, losing 117-90 and 115-107 at home, before heading back out on the road to lose 112-97.

That left the Timberwolves needing a home win on Thursday night, and they got the job done in emphatic fashion as they blew out the Nuggets, 115-70.

Denver return home with another chance to wrap up this series after suffering a blowout defeat on Thursday.

The Nuggets, who went 57-25 in the regular season, won four of their five meetings with the Los Angeles Lakers to ease through round one.

They dug themselves into an early hole in the second round though, as they were beaten 106-99 and 106-80 at home by Minnesota.

Denver rebounded on the road, recording 117-90 and 115-107 victories at the Target Center, and they then claimed the series lead for the first time with a 112-97 win at home.

That meant the Nuggets had the chance to clinch the series on the road on Game 6, but instead they suffered a heavy 115-70 defeat to the Timberwolves.
