The NBA consists of 30 teams - 29 in the United States and 1 in Canada - that are divided into the Western and Eastern conferences.
Each conference is broken down into three divisions consisting of five teams each.
All 30 NBA teams go through a 82-game regular season before the top eight teams from each conference compete in a playoff series.
The Eastern and Western conference champions then square off in the grand finale, the NBA Finals which culminates in June each year.
