The Hawks offence takes on the Breakers' tight defence in a clash of styles. Illawarra have come out on top on multiple occasions against defensive sides and I am taking them to cover the short line at home to kick off the round.

Prior to the FIBA break the Hawks took their 7th win of the season with a 86-79 victory over the Sydney Kings sending off their international contingent full of momentum.

The win snapped a two game losing streak for Illawarra who lost to Perth and Adelaide in consecutive games on the road.

The loss against Adelaide was the second of the season for Illawarra who have struggled both offensively and defensively against the powerful 36ers frontcourt.

The return to form though against Sydney reminded the league that they are still a force to be reckoned with.

The Hawks hold onto the top ranking in scoring, putting up 95.6 points per game with the best FG% and lowest Turnover number per game.

Their defensive ranking has dropped from earlier in the season, they now sit at 6th allowing 88.8 points per game to their opponent. The athleticism and effort on the perimeter has Illawarra ranked 3rd in 3pt defence.

Todd Blanchfield is the only out for the Hawks with a return date not yet announced.

New Zealand Breakers Form

The Breakers wrapped up the first half of the season prior to the FIBA break with a solid 77-69 win over the Cairns Taipans.

The win was their 4th in 5 games with a disappointing 83-64 loss to the JackJumpers breaking a 3 game win streak.

New Zealand have surprised many fans this season with their play style and ability to mould their game against different opponents.

They come into Round 10 as the best scoring defence, allowing opponents just 82.5 points per game. They are one of only two teams (Kings) that keep opponents under 90 points per game.

The Kiwi team sit 2nd on the ladder at the midway point of the season but enter a tough scheduling period with 8 double game weekends out of their next 9 rounds.

The three losses that the Breakers have incurred have been because of lack of scoring. In all three games the team scored 73 points or fewer, with two games in the 60s.

They have the 2nd best FG% but take the fewest shots of any team in the league and rank near the bottom in Points in the Paint and Points off Turnovers.

Max Darling and Mojave King still do not have timelines for return to play. Jonah Bolden is expected to be out until round 13 with a calf injury.
