New Zealand U19 Form
New Zealand impressed in the group stage, topping Group A with two wins against Argentina and Mali, losing only to Serbia.
They lived up to expectations in the Round of 16, taking control early and beating China 99-86. Tama Isaac led the scoring with 18 points.
The Tall Blacks continued their strong run with an 84-70 win over hosts Switzerland in the quarterfinals, overturning a halftime deficit in style.
USA U19 Form
USA remain the top contenders for gold, having won all five games so far at the World Championship 2025.
They cruised through the group stage with wins over Australia (88-73), France (108-77), and Cameroon (129-70), then crushed Jordan 140-67 in the Round of 16.
However, the Americans were tested for the first time in the quarterfinals, needing a big fourth-quarter push to overcome Canada 108-102. AJ Dybantsa starred with 22 points, most of them coming from the free-throw line.
Verdict
New Zealand have been solid all tournament, losing just once—and that was after already securing top spot in their group. While it’s tough to see them stopping this high-powered USA side, I don’t expect a complete rout either.
