Golden State Valkyries are having a good start to their inaugural season in WNBA, securing two victories in three matches.
After losing the premiere appearance in front of the home crowd to Los Angeles Sparks 84-67, the first historic win was secured against Washington Mystics 76-74 in front of Oakland crowd.
The Valkyries made it two in a row last weekend, causing a massive upset by beating the Sparks 82-73 in Los Angeles, Carla Leite dominating the floor with 19 points (landed seven out of her ten field goal attempts), while also registering two rebounds and three assists. Janelle Salaun also had big contribution with 18 points and eight rebounds.
New York Liberty Form
Last year’s WNBA finalists and one of the top contenders to win the championship this year, New York Liberty are having a strong start with three straight victories.
After outplaying Las Vegas Aces 92-78 in the first appearance of the season, they made it two in a row in Illinois, crushing Chicago Sky 99-74.
The Liberty made it three in a row last weekend but were heavily contested in Indiana by the Fever, winning 90-88 after pulling a big comeback in the final period. Jonquel Jones topped the charts with 26 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, while Sabrina Ionescu contributed 23 points (8/20 FG attempts).
Verdict
Golden State are having a decent start to their inaugural season in the WNBA, but I don’t think they can stop red-hot title contenders Liberty. I am backing the New York side to claim a convincing victory in front of the home crowd.
