It’s been a tough season for the Sparks, who sit 6th in the Western Conference with a 5-12 record and have struggled for any kind of consistency.
They suffered a three-game losing streak in mid-June—falling heavily to Seattle Storm (98-67), Minnesota Lynx (82-66), and Chicago Sky (97-86). A brief respite came with a surprise 85-75 road win over Indiana Fever.
That momentum didn’t last, as Sparks returned home and suffered another loss to Chicago Sky, this time 92-85. Dearica Hamby led the team with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.
New York Liberty Form
Despite poor recent form, New York Liberty remain top of the Eastern Conference with an 11-5 record.
They’ve lost four of their last five games. Their only win during that stretch came away to Golden State Valkyries (81-78), but it was followed by a 106-91 defeat to Phoenix.
In their most recent appearance, Liberty suffered a 90-81 loss at Atlanta Dream where a a poor first half cost them dearly despite Breanna Stewart’s 21-point effort.
Verdict
New York have won six of their seven home games this season and face a struggling Sparks side. This looks like the perfect chance for the champions to regroup and restore momentum. I’m backing Liberty to win convincingly and cover the –10.5 handicap.
