Neds Review
Dean Shannon is the main man behind this Brisbane-based online bookmaker. He was the former CEO of bookmaker.com.au and more recently Ladbrokes.com.au - the company which bought bookmaker.com.au in 2013.
Using his wealth of experience, in addition to a talented team of IT specialists, sports enthusiasts, bookies and statisticians, Neds was created. Google’s programming language ‘Go’ is what the modern, customisable platform is built on, with the owner’s goal to provide the Australian betting public with an unforgettable online player experience.
Neds is licenced and regulated by the Northern Territory Government, and for punters living in South Australia, the site is governed by the South Australian Gambling Codes of Practice. This highlights that Neds is totally legit, and while it takes several years to truly build trust and respect from punters, it appears as though Neds is on the right path.
The Neds code BLACKBOOK is available to use when signing up. You can read how to use it in this handy guide.

Neds Odds & Markets
Neds has impressed so far, however a stern test of its credentials awaits as we analyse the variety of betting options it offers punters - and the type of prices you can expect to get here.
In the featured events list down the side of the page (on desktop view) you have all the mainstream events such as AFL NRL, EPL and MLB matches plus other big events that are currently (or soon to be) in progress.
There are 20+ sports to bet on, which is less than some of Neds competitors offer to be honest. Here’s a breakdown of what’s available:
American Football | Australian Rules | Badminton | Baseball | Basketball |
Boxing | Cricket | Cycling | Darts | Esports |
Golf | Handball | Ice Hockey | MMA | Motorsports |
Rugby League | Rugby Union | Sailing | Snooker | Soccer |
Surfing | Tennis | Volleyball | Specials |
Neds Football Betting Tips
As for market depth, upcoming NRL matches had 85+ markets open, these include: H2H, Line, Total points, Try scorers, Margins, Odd/Even and Half markets. AFL games offered 50 markets; however, it’s worth considering that the next round of games is more than 1 week away, so these will increase dramatically as the games draw closer.
If you like a punt on soccer, Neds offers leagues from more than 50 countries. EPL games have on average 100 markets, which is acceptable although slightly less than some other online bookies provide. Things do thin out when you cut away from the top-tier action. For instance, the Finnish league has 35 markets and the national league in Chile offers on average 33 markets. For other sports, MLB baseball has an acceptable 70+ markets, yet test cricket only 11. This is a common weakness among new online bookies, they simply don’t have the clout to offer the same market depth as the industry elite.
Neds Horse Racing Betting Tips & more
Neds betting interface is one of the best in the business. It’s ultra-simple design is perfect for mobile users but it also scales up to offer a delightful experience on a desktop. The racing section lists the upcoming thoroughbred races with Australia and New Zealand meetings listed first, followed by several international events. There’s a clever toggle button that allows punters to easily flick from horses to harness or greyhounds. This saves so much space on the page, thus providing a clearer presentation of the information.
When viewing a race card, the head section is the ‘race comments’ which offers a brief overview on the runners and it highlights the horses which could perform well. Below that you have a series of tabs, which includes: race field, money tracker, fluctuations, featured bets, form guide and speed map. This puts all of the information needed to select a winning punt right there in front of you.
The race favourite is clearly highlighted by a yellow box around its price. Betting options cover all the bases with fixed odds, mid Tote and best Tote. Other popular bets include a Quinella, Exacta, Trifecta, first 4. Certain races also offer the best prices from VIC, NSW and QLD Totes.
Does Neds offer competitive odds? The answer is yes - we randomly tested its racing against a couple of other bookies and not once was Neds beaten on price. Admittedly, a small sample but very encouraging nonetheless.
Event | Neds | Sportsbet | Unibet |
---|---|---|---|
Horse racing: Belmont R1. Price of favourite. Fixed odds - win. | 2.10 | 2.05 | 2.10 |
Horse racing: Moe R8. Price of favourite. Fixed odds - win. | 3.60 | 3.50 | 3.50 |
Harness racing: Maryborough R8. Price of favourite. Fixed odds - win. | 3.10 | 2.90 | 3.10 |
Harness racing: Tamworth R7. Price of favourite. Fixed odds - win. | 1.90 | 1.90 | 1.90 |
Greyhounds racing: Shepparton R4. Price of favourite. Fixed odds - win. | 1.16 | 1.16 | 1.16 |

Neds also offers a tab labelled ‘Feature Racing’ which is the future markets for all of the big Group 1 races held in Australia and New Zealand. This bookie is creating a reputation for itself by offering generous early odds, so if you’re a punter who likes to gamble this way, you can take advantage of the all-in markets.
Neds Live Betting
Where there’s a will, there’s a way - and this applies to live betting in Australia. Due to the country-wide ban on online live betting, Neds and many other bookies offer live telephone betting. Neds service is 24/7 which is pleasing but it is a little weak on coverage of the lesser events. Whilst reviewing, Neds was offering live betting action on basketball and volleyball. At the same time, bet365 Australia had 9 different sports and far more events within each. So, this is a service which needs some improvement we feel.
Neds Website & Login
Neds Card
The Neds Card is a prepaid Mastercard which is connected to your betting account giving you instant access to your winnings via thousands of ATMs throughout Australia. On top of that, it functions in the same way as any other regular Mastercard debit card. You can use PayPass - a tap and go method of paying for goods. It’s also accepted online and offline (both in Australia and overseas) wherever you see the Mastercard logo.
Neds Multi Builder
Multi Builders are one of the most popular tools at online Australian sportsbooks. Using Neds Multi Builder, punters can construct multis of any size with a few simple clicks. You’re able to choose from a wide range of sports and markets from a single screen. It’s super easy to use, just scroll through the sports, select your markets and when you’ve finished click ‘add to bet slip’, insert your stake and place your multi bet.
Website/Usability
It’s hard not to be impressed by Neds web platform. Minimalist simplicity is the key. There is absolutely no clutter. You have sections for racing and sports and quick links down the side. The design does look a touch blocky on desktop devices but on a mobile it makes placing bets even easier.
Navigation is helped by the straightforward menus and breadcrumbs. This makes it easier to revert back to a hub page. Adding selections to your bet slip on both mobile and desktop platforms only takes one click. The bet slip splits into two showing singles and multis - another simple feature but it does improve the all-round experience.
Neds Mobile App
If you’re a mobile punter that prefers to use an app rather than a mobile website, Neds online bookmaker has what you need. Just like the web-based platforms, user-friendliness is paramount and speed is essential - this app delivers both.
- Among the key features of the Neds mobile app are:
- Same Game Multi
- Mobile Multi builder
- 3-step Quick Bet
- Simple Live Betting
- Exclusive Promotions
Neds Withdrawals & Deposits
The usual payment vendors most Australians are familiar with can be found at Neds. However, it doesn’t offer Skrill which is unfortunate. These are the methods you can use for depositing:
For withdrawals, the Neds Card is the best option as you get your money instantly. The only other listed withdrawal option is via a bank transfer which can take between 1 and 3 days to complete.
- Credit Cards
- Debit Cards
- BPAY
- POLi
- Bank Transfer
- Cheque
Neds Customer Service
Getting in touch with Neds is easier now it has live chat, but there are other channels available, too:
